my Daughters stopping by in a week or two and im contemplating dropping the oil in her 90000 Peugeot 107,

its not had an oil change in two years, but its a faff to get to the oil filter, i was thinking of just changing the oil with my pela pump,
and not bothering with the filter.

i know its not ideal but with the sporadic visits and, in the current climate is it worth just doing the oil?

Have done that many times.

An oil change has to be more beneficial than not doing anything at all.
I also figure if a filter is rated to last 20k miles, putting fresh oil through it at 10 only benefits it's longevity.

You never get all the old oil out so stories about the small amount in the filter contaminating the clean stuff is not worth worrying about.

Saying that...

In your daughters case of a 90k mile car that's not been done in two years, I'd make the effort and change the oil filter.
And also the air filter.
Possibly fuel and pollen too.
And a good wash and polish. smile

I'd say after 2 years, and at that mileage, it really wants oil and and a filter.

How many miles has it covered in that timeframe?

As an alternative, some of the national chains sometimes offer a cheap oil/filter change. I would never just change the oil, though.

9000 miles,

we all know what the Peugeot 107s are like they last for ever,
ive ordered a filter if im inclined to do it i will, rain dependent

to the other poster, i do clean it, last time i looked inside it looked like it was full of sandwich boxes, and our forks!

Fair enough, I mean that's not a huge mileage - go with the flow. (I hate filter changes, so I feel your pain)

I would be changing the filter also. We see many modern vehicles where the filter element has collapsed or broken up.

Mileage is a bit misleading. On my little Suzuki, one year I did 6000 miles and the oil change showed very clean oil, the next year I did 2000 miles and the oil was very dirty.

The difference was the second year I hardly used the car for long journeys, only used for short journeys.

A faff to get to the filter? It's right there next to the sump:

You could get to it by parking on a high kerb and reaching underneath...

Most of my cars do between 7Kand 15K per year, they get two oil changes each year, one in the winter using the vacuum pump and one in the summer via the sump plug and the summer one includes a full service, all filters etc..

i know where it is, its just case of jacking the thing up, and reaching for it,
I've ordered one off amazon, i would think if im inclined to di it and its not freezing rain ill do it

the thing putting me off is when i did the last one on SWBO's Qashqai,

The little rubber washer wasn't straight and as it screwed on it twisted, and i thought it was done up and it gushed out of the side of the engine,
brand new oil everywhere,
Luckily about six weeks later the road got resurfaced, so i got away with it.

Only thing i've done since is the mini, because its right there at the top.

I'd either just change it, or take it to a garage for an oil or filter change. I wish my oil filter was as easy as the one shown.

Just changing the oil and leaving on a 2 year old oil filter seems like half a job to me.

A family member has a garage and regularly sees collapsed oil filters, if you can’t be bothered to diy then let a garage change it.

Not worth the gamble to leave it, odds are if the car breaks down it will be expensive, mega inconvenient and possibly dangerous for your daughter.

Seem to be lots of fixed opinion without much reasoning or explanation behind them.

Could use the same logic for changing the fuel filter every time you fill up.
