Problem with laptop,keeps switching off,or screen pixelates?

Have a problem with my Toshiba laptop,it keeps shutting off,or it freezes and the screen goes all coloured/pixelated?
I suspected battery as it would only run with battery out and plugged into the mains,but with a new battery it's still the same.
The most stable laptop gets is battery out,plugged into the mains and booted up to safe mode which is making me think it's a driver problem?I've renewed all drivers,i tried uninstalling drivers then rebooting so it will install basic drivers,i've tried a system restore,i've run hard disk checks,virus checks,i've checked cooling fan is ok,i'm stumped!!
Basically if i boot normally to windows 7(i have to use win 7 32 bit for car diag software) everything will load up slowly,and within a minute or two it will shutdown.
Anyone any ideas?

Never thought of that,brilliant idea!Will probably get lots of people laughing at it too!with any luck?i have three but it's been a really dependable little tool for me,which made me want to fix it.

Could be a heat issue - clean and re-paste would be my second choice after making sure it wasn't a software issue (doing a fresh install would be the first choice).

More seriously do you really need win7?

I've not found anything yet that won't run on win10
