I'm struggling to find these in the UK could you use M12 1.5 locking wheel nuts instead?

Depends - are you changing your wheel studs to M12 at the same time?

If yes, then fine.
If not, not if you want to be sure the wheels will stay on.

The small Triumphs all use 3/8 wheel studs/nuts and swapping to Land Rover Freelander M12 studs/nuts is a common one - it's all a matter of finding something with the same knurled diameter for your car.

As above - M12 fine pitch might go on but they'd be loose and not make much useful contribution to holding the wheels on!

M12 is nearly 0.9 mm larger diameter than 7/16 so to replace the studs you'd have to drill out the hub, drum/disc, maybe wheel and anything else they go through.

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING THIS!!!!!

Only ever fit like for like threads - Especially on something as crucial as wheel nuts!
