Can’t be many of these that have survived.

Coventry JDU issue plate ( same as the well known Primrose press demo late built Series 1 E Type JDU 877E )

Hope it gets the restoration it deserves.

I have feeling the E-Type JDU 877E appeared in the 1967 film ‘Robbery’.

That's a project and a half to resurrect that poor thing, but I hope someone does, as there are not many ex-Police 60's era Jags left.

Exactly !! Particularly a MK2 3.4 Litre version and not a 240 or 340.

Would have looked like this Warwickshire Constabulary Mk.2 I would presume.

This one still exists. In private ownership. I can say from experience that it was an interesting car in it's day !

One of at least 3 surviving ex-MetPol S-Type's that I'm aware of, there's another ex-area car in the same WGK 4**G reg series, which is owned by a serving (maybe retired by now?) Met officer, who I always have a catchup chat with whenever I see him with it at shows, as I have many childhood memories of Met S-Types.
The other one of the 3 is an ex-TrafPol S-Type in the SUU ***F reg series, that I have seen once at a show many years ago.
As you say, they were 'interesting' in their day in Met service.
I think the Met might have been the only user of the S-Type, all (or most other forces, as per the one in the OP, used the Mk.2 in service instead)

I well remember seeing a Plod S Type, just as I was getting off of a bus on the Ridgeway in Chingford, on my way home from School, in circa 1973.

Would love to own an ex Police one of these !!

I suspect it might have been winter of '71/72, at the latest, as the Met had replaced all their S-Type's with Rover P6 3500 by '73.

1966 City of London police S type. They had this car together with SUU393F

It would appear that KYU390D was in service in the City with KYU389D and later replaced by SUU393F and an E reg Triumph 2000.

Interesting that City Police used the S-Type given the Met mostly allocated their S-Type's to the outer divisions, retaining the Wolseley 6/110 in most of their inner London divisions up until at least the winter of 1970/71 before replacing those with Triumph 2.5Pi's, and replacing the S-Type's in the outer divisions (and TraffPol) with the Rover P6 3500 around the same time.

I think you will find that several Met inner divisions used the S type. I recall that the West End Central car, Charlie 1 was an S type.

There was an association between the Met and the City from WW2 where 2 Met area cars were purchased by the City in order that radios could be compatible. The City D reg Jags replaced Wolseley 6/110's (although the City had purchased a green 6/110 in 1968). The jags ran alongside Triumph 2000's and then the P6 Rover.
The City ended the association in 1970 when it moved over to Triumph 2500 PI's and then BMW 5 series. Whereas the Met operated the P6, Triumph 2000, Triumph 2500 PI's and then the SDI, which came in 2600 form for inner London and 3500 for the suburbs and Traffic Division.

Is that the S-Type that appeared at the NEC classic show a while back, and is said to have been the car that transported the Krays to the nick on the day they were both arrested in 1969?

No. This car was registered in December 1968. The Krays were arrested on 8th May 1968. The trial was in 1969.

The black S-type is owned by the chap seen standing behind it in the picture (wearing hat). The blue P6 used to be owned by him too, and I am told is the only surviving Met Series 1 P6 left intact. At the time of the photo, the P6 was owned by the other chap seen in the picture, with blue shirt. He has since resold it to Ernie (hat wearer). The Kray link is correct.
