Latest Scam calls?

Indian chap, called "Chris" from "Todays Living"
What's the angle here ? I turned call Guardian off on the home phone as am covering a project go live at work this weekend and gave them my home as well as mobile numbers, call could be from a number of sources so didn't set any to allowed, will just switch it back on when its over. Its a good check to see if I am missing any calls, but as its only my parents, her mum and Indian call centres that still use it, will turn it back on and not worry.
Instead of my usual of just telling them to F off or am on a the "Vinegar Strokes" (They don't get it but it amuses me) He asked some questions, which I answered incorrectly,
Am I speaking to Mr **** *******
Are you a home owner or renting ?
What age group are you in ?
Who are your Utility bills with, British Gas, Eon ?
Who is your Life Insurance with ?
Would you like one of our magazines, Investors Chronicle or something else that escapes me.
Then, exactly the same call today, different wrong answers to the same script.
What are they up to, is it market research or am I now going to be bankrupted ?

Possibly building a profile of people who are vulnerable enough to fall for it.What's the angle here ? So they then know who you have services and subscriptions with
Three calls this morning, all from Rajastan in India.
"Hello I am Jane from Virgin" in a voice that didn't belong to a typical Jane
"I am calling about your intermittent broadband service, we will get that fixed for you"
"My broadband is fine, I think you are lying"
Jane decided that she had other things to do but within 10 minutes two more calls that disconnected as soon as I picked up.
I would have thought that it would be possible for telecoms companies to help stop criminal activities in some way, perhaps by reporting scam and phishing calls.
Too many people are losing money because of these calls.

I had one yesterday, informing me that hackers where 'attempting to use my internet'
I put on my best concerned voice and asked, 'oh no really how are they doing that'
To which the same phrase was requoted back.
I asked 'are they hacking my wifi?'
And they hung up - gits!
Really wanted to probe their technical awareness!

We’ve had a couple recently where we were due a Sky TV refund (apparently) despite us never having it (... and never would). On the second one I asked if Rupert Murdoch could personally come round with it in cash as I’d like to have a chat about how he ruined football in this country with his filthy lucre but the caller didn’t seem to understand (yes I know the Murdochs aren’t involved anymore- perhaps that was the problem

Sometimes two calls within a few minutes. Somebody must be falling for it otherwise they wouldn't bother.
I try different approaches.

As it is usually obvious I'm getting a scam call as they address me by the name of the previous phone number holder, when they ask for my bank details I get them to correct my name to Mr.Cumberland and then give them HMRCs a/c and s/c.
Usually worth asking them a) if they are sat there naked as they sound naked to me from their voiceor b) when they think they are getting somewhere, ask them for letters two and four from their password. Strangely the ones that get angriest are the UK accents cold calling re energy grants / double glazing and patios.
The usual scams this week are Virgin / BT disconnect broadband, HMRC arresting me and a refund from Amazon and I had this really wierd one about staying at home on full pay for another month.
Usually worth asking them a) if they are sat there naked as they sound naked to me from their voiceor b) when they think they are getting somewhere, ask them for letters two and four from their password. Not phone calls, but texts purporting to be from Halifax or HSBC (me, OH and eldest daughter) saying a payment we authorised is being taken tomorrow and to click a link in the text if I haven't authorised a payment.
Now this I can see catching people as its quite likely that someone hasn't just authorised a payment
I don't have any accounts with either so they can take all the money they want from them
