So I just got planning approval for my large home garage so for the first time I will be able to have my 1970 911, my 1959 356 and my Porsche powered VW van in the same place.

The garage is a split level affair, one side is double height, other side is single height for the simple reason that I want a 4 post lift.

So, what would be a great 4 post lift that would work on 240v, would lift my van which weighs in at over 2 ton and as low profile as possible? I could recess the lift into the slab so it would be a straight drive on lift.

I know nothing about 4 post ramps so looking for advice. Seems that Strongman are a common make but they all seem to come with wheels to move them and this seems to increase their height from the ground?

Thanks for any advice

I was all set to buy from automech when I got my 2 poster. They gave me plenty of good advice over the phone, so I went to see their lifts as I was passing on a return journey fro. Work one day. then I happened across Twin Busch, which seemed better quality/ better made to my eyes, and they were even more helpful and even more receptive to a bit of negotiation.

Installed it just over a year ago, it’s been faultless. Best thing ever bought, bar nothing.

Dave.

How did you get on with delivery/unloading/installation? Presumably you don't have a fork-lift at home? It's the only thing holding me back at the moment. I have a pair of scissor-lift platforms, and they need 8 of us to lift each one.

This was one of the clinchers from twin Busch. Because I’m close by, they had the option of a lwb sprinter, driven by the engineer who normally goes out and about fitting and servicing their garage customers lifts.

He backed it up right up to the door, assembled a flat packed engine hoist which he lifted one end with, then he and I lifted the other, whilst my father in law pulled on the hoist and rolled it on its castors.

Et voila, it was on the garage floor. It came on a frame each end that they had made for shipping, the engineer even took it off those and unpacked it to take pictures to prove everything needed was preset, there was a large wooden crate with the motor, hoses, ropes and fittings etc in

Took me and my father in law (time served machine tool engineer man and boy) a long day to fit it. Then another half a day adding strengthening plates because my fkin ahole builder fitted half the depth of concrete floor than specified. hehe
