Can Ilott pull back Schumacher's lead?

Qualifying underway now & Ilott setting the standard.

Red Flag with 1m 14s on the clock, no time for more runs.

Ilott on on pole by 4/10ths.

Schumacher back in 10th.

Good start to the weekend by Ilott.

Fingers crossed these two both go to Haas next season and can carry on this battle in equal F1 cars smile

Well, given the tyre wear, and extreme tyre management going on, neither Ilott nor Schumacher will be too unhappy with that.

Schumacher makes up some places, which he needed to do.
Ilott closed the gap, which he needed to do.

Just a mathematical chance for Ilott now. He has good speed (but not the best judging by F3) but I'm not convinced by his on-track battling at all. Journeyman at best in F1.

The opposite appears to be true for Schumacher!

I wonder what happened to schwarzmann. He was my tip for the F2 championship due to his F3 efforts. He started the season acting like a favourite but has faded into total obscurity. Not often that happens.

Why discuss F2 in an F1 thread?

This is a F2 thread. Unless you mean F1 sub-forum?

In this case, I presume because they’re likely to end up as F1 drivers in the near future.

Indeed. It's a feeder series designed to provide future F1 drivers, therefore it forms part of what F1 is smile

I appreciate having the F2 thread related to the F1 thread. They are undoubtedly related. I think it would get lost under ‘General Motorsport’.

There's always one...

Imo there should be an F3 thread and a WS one for next season. It's all part of F1.

Well, wherever life made it possible, was going to start the F3 ones & it's a good call on W-Series, so may well start them whenever I can as well.

It's all part of the F1 "circus" wink

It really isn't. If there's a concern that it might get lost amongst the cobwebs of the General Motorsport area then perhaps F2 isn't as popular as some think.

It really is - the circus comes to town and those with tickets watch the support races ahead of the main event. And I think it's actually getting more popular as frankly the racing has been fantastic the last couple of years - and whatever people complain is 'wrong' with F1 is more often than not put right in F2.

Watching F2 and F1 is a very decent weekends worth of entertainment and drama, and when the top F2 drivers move to F1, it helps to know a little more about them too. This year it's particularly exciting as there is a very real prospect two current battling F2 drivers could end up in the same F1 team.. They can recommence their battle in the exact same F1 machinery if that happens - should be good!

Yep. It is part of the circus, because it is, er, part of the circus.

Of course it's not as popular. That would be like comparing the premiership to the championship. But the true fans of F1 like to see the up and coming generation. Given the equal machinery it serves as a good guide and good information to the abilities of the next generation of F1 drivers.

Besides which, it's better racing than F1 and given I was highly entertained watching Lewis in gp2 and George, Lando, Charles et al in F2, why wouldn't you want to watch the same drivers at it? The more the better imo.

I'm happy to have separate thread for f2 otherwise the conversation gets lost in the varies pages of conversations. It doesn't need its own sub genre but this is good enough.

Mick obviously going to be in f1 and Callum IILLOOTT doesn't really have a great chance imo. Another brit but no family name.

His only hope imo would have been to wipe the field completely but he hasn't.

Guanyu Zhou has really fallen off the cliff this year as has Robert shwartzman

I'm going to miss the race live this morning, which is a touch disappointing, but just occasionally I have to give priority to my family (especially as have F1 + other sports to watch later wink)

Have to catch the highlights on YouTube as no replays on NowTV in next 24 hours that I can see...

The reason for the F2 thread in the F1 forum, was that people complained about the F1 event spoiler thread receiving comments from those watching the support races live, when they planned to watch later. So we now have a separate thread for F1 event support races.

Great drives from Schumacher and Tsunoda yesterday to come back from 10th and 22nd.

Sprint race should be interesting this morning. Really enjoyed this years F2. Some real quality in the field after last year which was really sub par.

I was always against F1 having its own sub-forum. I'd prefer if F1 was included as "motorsport". To me it indicated that F1 was something different.

F2 is sometimes a feeder to F1 - it always has been. As has F3 and other sub formulae.

Why must you always complain? It makes not the slightest difference to you if we discuss F2 here. This year it is most certainly directly linked to F1 as the door is wide open at Haas for drivers to move up to F1.

Hope you're watching the race - it's proving very dramatic.
