BR Upgrades - Recommendations or Suggestions
Discussion
Morning all,
When I bought my ‘06 DB9 Volante a few months ago it was always my intention to ‘develop’ the car, especially having followed the BR YouTube channel for some time.
So now I’m thinking of using the first few months of 2021 when I won’t be using it much to have the upgrades done. Specifically, chassis to include bilsteins, thicker under plates and a rear anti roll bar. Engine wise, primary decat and high flow secondaries but probably not replacement manifolds. BR are suggesting a DBS back box too to compensate for slightly less noise due to cat removal but that maybe on a back burner. I’m not sure the bang per buck works for that spend.
Has anyone had these mods done and if so, how do you find the car now? Anyone who hasn’t modified, do you have any comments or suggestions I can listen to?
TIA
J

I've had just about all of those mods done.
The revelation is actually the most boring bit... the stiffening plates. With those and the better shocks and the addition of a roll bar, the car will be transformed - take it from me!
If you are going to do the secondary cats - I'd strongly suggest getting BR to delete the primary cats. Note this is not the bespoke manifolds. Its a (relatively!) low cost mod (they cut out the blocks from the primary cats) which really improves performance - it like night and day - and safeguards against the dreaded cat ingestion! If you d this you'll get a bit more noise. But also ask them to do the DBS airbox mod too, it's simple modification worth about 5 bhp and provides a nice extra benefit of some more intake snarl!
In regards to the DBS back box it's certainly a nice upgrade (and I love the extra sound personally!) but.... it's pricey, very pricey.
If I was you I'd save the money on this the backbox for now, and use the money to get the primary cat removed with the airbox mod. It's best to do this all at once because there's some software that needs to be recalibrated. Then if you want more the backbox is always easy to fit later.
Hope this helps.

Further details?
It's not an airbox delete kit!
The BR airbox upgrade is a modification to the V12 airbox which improves airflow to the engine; helping it breathe more effectively at higher revs.
As I understand, the mod is similar to the venting found in the DBS airbox. The BR airbox modification is, however, passively vented and not valved as on the DBS. I believe this modification can be undertaken on all DB9 and Rapide generation 1 cars and delivers c+5bhp benefit for the OEM manifolds (or c+10bhp if you've you're a lunatic like me and have upgraded to the DBS inlet manifolds).
Also as I mentioned, the nice added benefit of the airbox modification is that it slightly enhances the aural characteristics of the V12 engine. To my ears, it adds a lovely, subtle, menacing edge throughout the rev range. Indeed, I understand that this is why the original DBS airbox was active - it was closed at low revs to pass drive-by noise restrictions.
Hope this helps!

I’ll enquire too although I’m looking for power. My daily driver is an Audi A6 BiTdi Avant. Although 0-60 is only 5.2 the torque at 475lb/ft makes it feel as quick as the DB9. Different experience obviously but I thought the Aston would feel a lot quicker so now the quest is on to enhance it a little.

I'm likely to be having the primary cats removed at BR soon. Glad to hear there's a performance difference to go with the peace of mind. I didn't know about the airbox mods either.
