Just had an email from my dealer to let me know I can collect my new PHEV this week.

BMW X1 xDrive 25e M-Sport Plus with Tech 2 and bike rack prep.

Ran out of money for a decent colour, so had to have Alpine white.

Nice, so keeps you on the right side of the taxman then, I assume?!

Co. Car tax bill drops from around £420 / month to £145 / month.

Colleagues in pre-WLTP BMW 330es are down to about £80 / month! - sadly the 330e just doesn't work for my lifestyle, though - and a 530e is even more expensive than this - which I managed to get up to £43,500!

Collected today. Didn't really want white, but colours cost extra and I ran out of car allowance - Plus pack, Tech 2 and bike rack prep. took priority.

First impressions - fuel tank is way too small. It's adequately quick and it's very refined.

Feels narrow compared with the outgoing 5 series, saves me a fortune.

What happens if you never plug them in? Do they charge the battery using the engine's power?

Last place I worked almost everyone chose the 330e due to Co Car tax, but I never met anyone who plugged them in. Think part of the reason is that they had fuel cards, but no means of putting electricity on expenses.

I'd consider one now as I currently either do less than 10 miles a day or (occasionally) over 200, so it appears to be a good compromise for a daily.

Other option is a BEV and use one of the petrol cars for long journeys.

It will charge on engine power and regen. If you are only doing up to 30 miles most of the time, but need something to do the odd longer journey, they're probably just what you want.

It will be interesting to see how it works out - I'll not plug in until there are more chargers out there and I get a fuel card that works with chargers - assuming I can find any that support the socket on it!

But I will rarely charge at home as I'm in the same place - can't reclaim electricity on expenses - business say I'm saving enough in BIK to cover it.

What I may do it boost it on a Friday afternoon so I can run around most of the weekend on battery alone, meaning nil reclaims from me by the business.

Do you have a fuel card then? Most companies are getting rid of them. I’ve just had a 330e delivered. I’ve been charging it at home as I don’t have a private fuel card, the savings are stacking up at the moment. Even managed to get a respectable 55mpg on 150 mile return journey the other. I started with a full charge.

With the bik savings and the cheaper personal driving using the electric, it’s a bit of a no brainer.

Got a fuel card but have to repay private mileage each month.

We're still not sure how to manage this if we run on electric for private miles and it'll be another few months before the fuel cards are updated to pay for charging.

I will be getting a charger installed, just because it's free, even though I'll rarely use it.

First long run tomorrow - S. Wales to Colchester. Back on Friday.

Get a decent electricity tariff (Octopus go) and it'll be pence to charge. You can then do local mileage zero emission. You're saving loads of cash on tax .. why not save the planet a bit and burn less petrol??

The amount of emissions I'd save would be wiped out by needlessly firing up a 3.2 flat 6 and 3.0 V6 to move them so I can access the charger!

(The company car lives on the road)

Does your G20 330e make the 8% UK bik bracket? The standard 37 electric miles / 12% rating is not always the case, quite a few pass the 40 miles range and drop down a band.

I have a fuel card but also charge regularly because my total motoring costs are minimal at 8% bik anyway, even with private fuel included.

No mines 10% for this tax year. The 8% cars were cars registered before March 2020.

Ah, ok thanks. Mine was Sept 2019. 10% is pretty decent bik value for such a company car though.

I have been driving my Leaf for the last couple months, cannot wait to get out of it and back into a decent car. The Leaf does it's job and ticks many of the boxes for my use, but it truly is an awful car in so many ways.
