Thought I would consult the hive mind.

Ford KA, has been sat up for a year I would say, fresh battery and it wont fire. Cranks well and I have a good spark but it doesn't even cough!

Trust code reader and Torque Pro shows:

P0121 - Throttle Position Sensor (A live view of the TPS shows it at 25% when the throttle is closed, goes to WOT fine but sits at 25% at closed)

P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (can't see how this would stop it starting)

P1000 - Emissions test failed (most likely because the battery has been removed after going very flat)

P1794 - Low voltage (again see battery)

Thoughts?

I guess the TPS is the obvious culprit but would that really prevent it from firing up? I would have expected a "safe mode" type running?

Our old 52 plate Ka didnt start one morning, so I had the RAC out....

There is a fuel pump shut off by the drivers right foot, its one of those thats shuts the fuel pump off in the case of a bump...

Very similar to this, just need to press the reset button on top....

ETA -If this inertia switch has tripped, the fuel pump wont run....

Don’t scrap it! If the below suggested fuel fix doesn’t work, get on the f ebook group for the KA race series. Think it’s called enduroKA, you’ll get a taker for more than scrap money.

Failing that, gift it to me and I’ll do something fun/ useful with it (I have the time and the space!) hehe

It was supposed to be for EnduroKA. It can't stay where it is as my brother in law abandoned it in the mother in laws street about a year ago, it's a bit of a flap but essentially it needs to be gone as people are apparently starting to complain as it is taking up a space in an area where space is tight, we have thus far kept them from doing anything about it as she is entitled to a parking space that she doesn't need so this has been there but I think we are at the end of that particular excuse now and she doesn't need the hassle. I would tow it home as it isn't far but the van's MOT expired a couple of weeks back and I don't have a rope and it would cost me more in fuel to go and get the trailer to move it that the car is worth. I don't really want to let it go as it was a free car that I was going to attempt a second race car build with but alas time is not on my side!

Could it just be that the petrol is just past its best, as it's been standing too long? Could be worth trying a can of Easystart. Cheap fix if it works!

the vehicle speed sensor code relates to the crankshaft speed sensor. If that doesn't work it won't start.

This if it it for the crank sensor it car likely won't even try to inject fuel of spark

Sometimes a faulty sensor will prevent a car starting but I've known it before that if the sensor is unplugged it will run, albeit not too well or in limp home mode, it's worth a try if you still have the car!
