£15-20k, 'Safe' ish residuals, 2 seat, convertible?

Hi All,

I'm thinking about throwing some cash into a fun weekend car.
Just to give you a steer, i already have a regular daily driver (Disco Sport) and a 981 Boxster S, so something 'different' to the Boxster would be good. I was also trying to put the cash into something that's unlikely to depreciate too much.
I'm thinking 4.0/4.3 Griffith or S2000, but are there any other suggestions?

Loads of off beat options spring to mind, Including a Honda Beat!

Something K-Car will be well under budget and a good laugh.
Something Classic, Triumph Spitfire is on budget. Jaguar XJ-S Convertibles and XJS-C Cabriolets are moving up, but still in reach and with the latest series of 'The Crown' are due a few years in the sun.
Something newer, the Boxster is probably the best out there realistically.

Jaguar X-100 XKR, mint ones will not loose money, I know you said 2 seat but these are very different from the Boxster and a lovely thing to own.

C5 Corvette if you can cope with LHD seem to be at the point where they're not going to lose much/anything. An S197 Mustang may also fill that spot (I had mine a couple of years ended up selling for more than I bought it from a dealer for - same car today some 4 years later would still cost me roughly the same amount). Weighed up against that is that they may be considered a little 'low rent' on the interior if that bothers you, ditto the fact that they're both LHD

I did similar back in 2016 and brought a 4.0 Chimaera, for £12k. It's probably worth about £13.5k in the current market, so it's definitely not depreciated in 4 years and around 13k miles added...

...and I've only spent around £8-9k on it in that time!

Costs aside, TVR ownership is great (read addictive)- so much so that we also brought a Tuscan in the summer!

Another vote for the Elise. I might be selling my S1 Elise soon for the top end of your budget, but it does include a 270BHP Audi turbo engine in the back, Nitron suspension all around, AP ali-bell discs, full carbon Eltech Italia seats, S1 Exige Rimstock alloys, Luke Pro Harnesses and a Safety Devices A-Frame ... amongst other upgrades! Aesthetically speaking, it looks almost standard. No wings, splitters, or silly stuff.

But yeah, an Elise!

Porsche 981 Boxster/Cayman prices are holding strong! A 6-8 year old 981S is pretty much £30K (options/mileage dependent).

Elise - If i can ever face selling my 'Drivers Spec' 981BS then i'll probably go down the Elise route
XKR - That wasn't even on the agenda, but SWMBO likes them, so i'm having a look

The TVR Griffith route is still a big pull, so most of my research is going in that direction.....
