Discussion
Hello,
I'm looking at a car for a friend and he's interested in the Volvo S60 T4 R-Design Nav, are they solid cars? Any noteworthy alternatives? I have attached a link below for reference.

Thank you!
I had a V60 in the same spec, sadly my experience was not a good one and I can't recommend it at all, put me off Volvo for life.
Mine was a 61 plate so one of the early versions but looking at the pics in your link the inside is identical.
Mine needed door lock mechanisms replacing on offside front, rear and boot within my 18 months ownership, side doors were circa £300 each at a independent Volvo specialist, boot was closer to £500.
"Leather" on the drivers seat bolster was awful quality and split and crack all over, this I found out was a common fault as I looked for a replacement used one and every used one was the same damage.
The arm rest on the drivers door broke when I put my elbow on it one day and the plastic underneath the leather covering cracked.
The infotainment system was poor in terms of it's interface I found it very difficult to navigate comparing to the Audi I had before and the BMW I've had since.
The engine on the plus side wasn't bad at all, i'd describe it as adequate, it was Ford's 1.6 turbo engine they use in the Fiesta ST, I never had any issues with the mechanicals on it.

As with all these things, some people will get a good experience, some won’t. I have the same spec as that one you posted on a 60 plate. The issues I’ve had are the leather like the poster above, it was torn before I bought it, got repaired, and tore again. The blind spot monitoring has once failed which meant it was constantly flashing at me, a quick turning the car off and on fixed it though and hasn’t been an issue since. Also the ride is quite hard on the 18” wheels but i can deal with that. Aside from that the car has been perfect mechanically, absolutely cannot fault it and I’m intending to keep it for a long while yet!
I forgot all about the Blind Spot monitoring issue (BLIS as Volvo call it) mine regularly had issues and failed, particularly in wet weather it seemed, restarting the car would sort it but then it would come back again, never did get to the bottom of that and it was an issue on both sides of the car, Volvo specialist said new units which was big money so I didn't bother repairing it.

They're a decent car as you've read they can have some niggly issues (but what modern cars don't) the main downside with these imo is the lack of rear legroom other than that the one you linked to is decent.I'm looking at a car for a friend and he's interested in the Volvo S60 T4 R-Design Nav, are they solid cars? Thank you!
Alternatives:
DS5 Prestige 210 very smart steer (think a softer 308 GTI) loaded with kit as well as being reliable.

Q50 Sport 210 reliable swift (shares the same drivetrain as the C250cgi) spec wise they're pretty loaded

IS250 these are the 300 shape but come in petrol form I'd looking out for a F Sport one would be the pick.

F Sport you can find later ones for sale.
