I couldn't see one already so I thought I'd start a thread for wine recommendations. Either special offers or just a good bottle of plonk for a reasonable price.

I know this being PH anything cheaper than a 1968 Lafite is a bit council, but I'm a cheapskate interloper and think a decent daily drinker can be had for under £10.

A few of my favourites:

Chateau Talmont, bordeaux red, £6.50 or 6 for £30 at Asda
La Patrie, French Malbec, varies between £6-7.50 at Sainsburys
Haut Mirambet, also Sainsburys, usually a bit more than La Patrie
Trivento,- was 6 for £30 at Morrisons the other day, nice Argentinian red

Obviously I like my red but post what you like

Surely Porta6 has to be the best red under a tenner.

Beautiful fruity Portugese red. Thread closed.

Majestic usually have it.... if you have one, try and get there are do some tastings.

They have loads in your price range and it will be a step up in quality from the supermarket offers!

Works out about £1 a bottle when I've been buying 18 bottles at a time. My only gripe with them is that they seem to have gone back to a 6 bottle minimum order on their cheaper stuff, I'd likr to get a range in and see what I like, but it's too much of a risk so end up buying the same each time

What's happening about duty and VAT on personal wine imports from the EU after the end of December?

I always find Yellowtail and Hardys good and relatively cheap. I think YT is usually 2 for £12 at Bargain Booze.
If you want really cheap, but good make your own from a kit, it works out at £3 bottle.

I've tried as below, I score them as "value for money" for my taste. So couyld be an amazing wine but £50 and I'd give it 5/10 or good and under a fiver and get 8/10 if that makes sense.

Cadão Red 2018
Reference: CDA0006
4/10

Vidigal Porta 6 Red 2019
Reference: MUV0164
5/10

Dona Helena Red 2018
Reference: WAW0019
5/10

Herdade da Gambia Red 2018
Reference: GRC0153
7/10

Cadão Rosé 2019
Reference: CDA0008
5/10

Passarella A Descoberta Rosé 2016
Reference: MCU0302
4/10

Adega de Vila Real Colheita Red 2017
Reference: VNT0032
7/10

So out of those I reordered the Vila Real which is under £3 but is better than any Aldi red at £5-6 and the Gambia which is about £5 but tastes like £10.

They're not listing the Gamba anymore but the Vila Real is there as is the Reserva which I have now also ordered a case of.

Not a specific wine to recommend but I discovered a firm called 'Naked Wines' early in Lockdown MK1 and haven't looked back.

Their mixed cases equate to about £6-£8 a bottle. Not had a single duff one yet, and some have been exceptional.

I like it as you never know what you'll get & it encourages me to try new types of wine I'd never normally think about.

I have no link to the company at all - just sharing a positive experience!

No Majestic Wine near me unfortunately.

My father swears by Naked Wines and has had some brilliant ones.

I've tried naked wines, disappointing, expensive and average.

Recently been buying some Morrisons stuff in the £6-8 range, jolly good too.

We used to hawk the yellow labels at Morrisons in the £6-10 range, started buying from The Wine Society at the start of the year, which was very timely as it turned out! Really happy with the quality and plenty of choice in the £6-12 range.

Seconding Porta 6. It was £7.50 in Tesco the other week, very nice.

Also in Tesco was Trapiche Malbec for £9, lovely. Trivento Private Reserve Malbec goes on promo for £10 from about £14 I think sometimes and is defo worth a go.
