Security and banks

This morning I phoned up my "relationship manager" at my bank and asked her to transfer some money. Which she did.

She did not ask me any security questions, whatsoever. Admittedly, it wasn't a huge amount (few hundred quid) and she recognised my voice. However, I find this more than a little disconcerting!

Isn't there some sort of legal protocol which the banks need to comply with?

Not really - I think they've got to prove they're able to cover any cockups they make, but it's up to each bank to decide how they go about avoiding security problems. There are various measures of security (BS numbers and so on) if I remember rightly, but it's not something people know to check up on.
