Sorry to sound really ignorant, but I read some of these Rolex threads and would like to know what watches you can go into a shop and buy.

All the talk of waiting lists and unavailibility etc. but I walk about the West End and Westfield Stratford even and there are many, many shops with windows full of Rolex watches.

Are they just for show? Can you walk in and just buy one from the window?

What can you go in and buy (not that I really want to, mind, although a wine coloured Datejust would be nice) and what do you have to go on a waiting list/'get the call' on?

Again, apologies for stupididty, it's just a thought I had last night.

Thanks. smile

There will be a waiting list for any steel sports model, unless you get beyond lucky. So Explorer, Explorer2, GMT Master2, Submariner, Daytona, Sea Dweller, Sky Dweller, Milgauss, Yacht Master I&2 in steel will be unavailable. Steel Datejust, maybe in 36mm. Bi metals and precious metals are more available, and diamond dials more so again. Smaller women’s sizes and Pearl Masters will also be more available. Whether you can walk out with one is another matter, but certainly within a few weeks I would guess you would get one of the more available models.

OK, thanks. I'd wondered why I'd never seen a Milgauss in a shop window, it's one that I'd like to see in the metal as well as the 36/41 Datejust. smile

Milgauss are relatively obtainable compared to some the others- or at least, they used to be.

Hi
It may also depend if you have bought other watches from the dealership and if they think you will keep the watch ratter than just buy and resell something they sell you quickly.
We ought a new steel datajust and the new sub bi metal front the local dealer in Glasgow. The data just was in stock but I wasn't sure and missed it but got another in a couple of weeks and then wanted a green sub. The new one didn't have the green dial only bezel so I passed on it and was offered a bi metal blue dial which I bought although had to decide if was taking it within a few days.
We found the dealer be very friendly and helpful and bent over backwards to find us watches. I think they were very clear wee wouldn't not simply flip the watches onto the market and we haven't.
I had bought a S/h IWC Divinci from one of the local branches a few months before. I keep watches rather than sell. I think dealers can spot the signs of someone just wanting to buy and flip the watch and that makes a big difference.
I hope this helps.
