Bit of a contradiction here but never mind.
I have a 2006 Passat with the Tfsi engine.
It has a mild remap and an intake fitted. Modified and mpg concerns is the contradiction.
I am not concerned about the fuel consumption as in ££££'s as I am getting expenses at the minute which more than covers any outlay. I just want to make sure it is running correctly.
The exhaust has always been a bit black inside the tailpipe which suggests it is running rich.
I am doing 450 miles a week, most of it cruising on the mway. I stick to 70-75 and the car is doing 34-35mpg.
Does that sound about right.

Black exhaust tips is normal for them, because they burn a fair bit of oil. I had a Yeti with a TSI engine and it would only get 35mpg at that speed. Black exhaust too... crap engines (IMO).

2.0 TFSI in an Audi TT here. 30-35 mpg is about right. On a long motorway run might push 38 or so.

And yes, black tailpipes.

"sooty" tailpipes is normally for turbocharged petrol cars as they run rich

The soot seen on cars such as this is why petrol cars now have particulate filters too. I believe it is the direct injection.

What mileage is she on? Have you had the cam follower changed? Just asking as it's something I was introduced to recently on the TFSI engine.

Mileage is 155k and rising quickly with this new job.
Cam follower has been done, cam belt twice, cam timing chain and follower etc, etc, etc.
Me, obsessed with it, nahlaugh. My wife says I spend too much time and money on it but I don't care, I really like the car and want to keep it as long as possible.
