Markerstudy - any good?
Discussion
Any one had good/bad experiences with Markerstudy? I’m potentially about to take out insurance that is underwritten by them. Someone has drawn to my attention their trust pilot reviews, which are frankly appalling.
Is this likely a case of a minority having bad experiences and plastering reviews everywhere or are they generally bad? I’ve searched on here and the consensus is they are ok but the posts are very old now.

Maybe an over simplistic view, but you get what you pay for. Is this likely a case of a minority having bad experiences and plastering reviews everywhere or are they generally bad? I’ve searched on here and the consensus is they are ok but the posts are very old now.
If you choose the cheapest, not heard of insurance company then I would expect claims experience to be difficult. Afterall, they can only afford to be cheap if they retain more premium income than they pay out in claims.
If you dont make a claim then you will have saved money in that year, if you do have to claim, then you might regret it. the saving But as ever, you pays your money and make your choice.

But they might do that with better IT/lower overheads/more efficiency. But in general terms, you'll probably get a better service from Aviva than Titanic Insurance or Soopacheep Underwriting Co. AWRacing said:
I’ve been underwritten by them for years through Adrian Flux, cant comment on their customer service though as, touch wood, i’ve not had to claim
Reminds me of the reviews of an American tornado warning app. Scored 4.9* out of 5, and hundreds of great 5* reviews....looks really pretty on my screen, downloaded easily, etc etc. And buried in the middle, a single 1* review...tornado struck my trailer park, no warning given, wife and kids killed. The guy who ran into the back of my car was insured with them.
They did everything possible to delay approving repairs. It got to the stage where I had to call them listing all the lies they'd tried spinning and giving them 7 days notice of starting court proceedings against them.
Repairs were approved 2hrs later.

In order to start proceedings, you would have had to write to the bloke who hit you and give him 7 days to pay (or to get his insurers to pay) before starting proceedings against him. Whichever way, £11K worth of repairs were approved within 2hrs of speaking to them.OP asked if anyone had any experience of them. My answer is yes, a complete bunch of w

We were insured with them on the wifes Audi TT through A Plan, no issues with the claim other than it took an age to get back our excess, they were originally wanting to go 50 /50 even though a car reversed out of a car park space straight into the side, my mini is insured with them at the minute again through A Plan as its on a modified policy.
Had my Lancer Turbo insured and underwritten by them through A Plan last year, but after reading what an apparent bunch of twunts they are, I went with a classic agreed value policy through Hagerty instead.
Luckily I never needed to deal with them, but judging by the Trustpilot reviews, I'm pleased that I didn't.

Both of my cars have been underwritten through them via the broker i use for the last few years. As someone mentioned above, they seem to be one of few places left that will insure certain highly modified cars. I can't comment on the claim side of things, but one thing i can reference is that they can sometimes be really slow when it comes to returning paperwork.
I think the last couple of years they've been used by my broker, the average time for MS returning the certificate / schedule, etc, to them has been about 2 to 3 weeks. Although this year, given everything CV related, they managed to get everything back in 2 days - go figure

I have had two claims dealt with by Makerstudy, both were dealt with very quickly.
However my caveat is that on both occasions they wrote of the car with very little damage showing - a wing and a headlight in one case, no way was it beyond economical repair, they paid out 7K in that instance.
The car does not seem to have shown up on the road again, so I wonder if they mitigate their costs by breaking the cars for parts, they could even end up in profit I guess.
In that case I had been eyeing up a change anyway and I was not at fault so it suited my purpose, otherwise I would have just had it fixed myself.

DO NOT DO IT !!! They are cheap for a reason, as I have learned to my cost. I have moved onto better and far more reputable companies.
The dreadful example of them 'inadvertently' putting my car on the 'write off' insurance database register. I discovered this had been put on for 2yrs, when I came to sell my car and the buyer walked away, saying I had lied to him. Markerstudy simply apologised and removed the marker.
A formal complaint has been made to the Financial Ombudsman - DON'T DO IT!!

I mean this is an old resurrected thread but I'll also say:
DONT DO IT THEY ARE THE WORST
In my case they initially tried to write off my car for car park damage to the clam (Lotus Elise). Then they told me that 20 year old cars arent worth the same as they were new (when I told them the value which I had just paid a few months earlier). Then when they finally agreed to repair it they only want to pay £25per hour and after some fighting accepted £45 per hour which is still a joke.
