I took my 987 for a service at a specialist in January and he said there was a small weep on the lower near side radiator pipe, and recommended keeping an eye on it.

Well it is taken all year to develop into an actual leak, the specialist wanted to replace all the pipes. I thought that seemed over the top, so I bought just the hose, or more specifically because I couldn’t be sure which pipe was which, I bought both N/S hoses. I changed the leaking lower one which is connected to plastic mating parts in about 30 mins.

I then thought, shall I bother changing the other one, after all it is not leaking... I convinced myself because I had the part and the coolant partially drained, that I might as well... Tcensoredt... yeah well and truly corroded in... ended up damaging the aluminium crossover pipe in the process... so it has now got to go to the specialist for exactly the job I was trying to avoid...

If I had a fiver for every time I've thought "I'll just do that while I'm at it...", I'd be able to afford the cost of repairing my clumsiness...

The coolant cross over pipes is becoming quite common a maintenance issue.

Sounds like you're able to do some DIY so why not do the crossovers yourself? It's fiddly but if you have a decent set of tools it's not the worst job on one of these cars. I produced a detailed write-up when I did the crossovers on my 987.1. PM me if you're interested.

I replaced all the coolant hoses and crossover pipes on my Cayman R last year.
Spray all the fittings with Bilt Hamber Dynax before assembling them and they will never rot again.

When I had my 987, it started to leak there - common fault as steel collar on hose against ali crossover hose.

Anyway, I took my to a specialist, he replaced hoses but had to replace crossover pipe as well. He cracked that while fitting it. Took 3 months for him to stop the coolant leaks....

At least you only have yourself to blame biggrin

True. It’s booked in to the local specialist on Monday and I am being relieved if ~£600 for the pleasure.
