Shopping help - baggy hip hop/surfer shorts for 81 year old

My dear old dad is a double amputee and lives on his own. He's fiercely independent and until recently was still insisting on doing his own DIY and gardening (including climbing ladders with an electric hedge trimmer, and dangling upside down out of upstairs windows to clean the downstairs skylights). Think Brian Blessed crossed with Victor Meldrew and you'd not be far off.

We're 3 hours away and have been in a higher tier all autumn so haven't seen him since August. He's in a bubble with my sister so not entirely on his own, but he likes to keep everything to a minimum, especially with COVID. He's asked us to visit for Xmas under the 3 household rule, assuming the rules don't change.

Anyway, he's been in the wars lately and this morning he called and asked if I could get some baggy short trousers (below the knee - 3/4 length). Due to bandages etc, he can't get his pants and trousers on any more. He's given me some measurements and basically he needs about 20 inches circumference width on the leg, so we're into hip hop style pants territory (and he's just into the bigger waist sizes). This is so he can answer the door to the postman/nurse without exposing himself, as it's starting to become a bit awkward.

I've been looking all morning and haven't come up with anything except some chinese suppliers, but their biggest sizes are still only about an XL, so just too small. Nothing in the UK as yet, even in the big tall shops, and I've not found anything from the US yet.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

How about asking a local seamstress to adjust some trackie bottoms?

Or something like this (suitably adjusted)

Are these of any use - the Brandit shorts do go up to XXL, and the XL size I've just measured are over 20" on the thigh? Pretty comfy, but not maybe not the hardest wearing

Thanks that's the kind of thing, but their XXL is quite small - he needs 40-42 at the waist - and probably elasticated

Unfortunately it seems it's the wrong time of year for that at Jacamo - one of the first places I looked

The seamstress is an option. The one I used locally unfortunately retired a couple of years ago.

He already wears loose joggers but says they're too tight to get his left leg into.

Look,at basketball shorts. They’re loose fit. Nike do a full range at various price points. Based on the sizes you’ve given, xxl will fit.

Thanks for all the suggestions I think I've found some long boxing shorts. If they don't work I'll try the others suggested here
