997.2 Prospective Purchase
Discussion
Have the opportunity to buy a 997.2 2010 Carrera from a p/x for £26.5k.
Full PSH - last one June 2010
Porsche VHC all green (amber points sorted)
53k miles
PDK
Heated seats
Bose
Nav
Sports Chrono
Sports design wheels
One concern is that it will be bought with no warranty
Seems like a great opportunity as even WBAC are saying £28250

Sounds like a bargain and good opportunity. Do you know the seller and can have a poke round the car/history beforehand?Full PSH - last one June 2010

Can’t see what you have to lose at that price tbh - if you don’t like it, sell it (or can p/x for what you already know a dealer would offer for it).
It does look cheap, which always makes me suspicious ( if a deal looks too good to be true, it is too good to be true).
Most important thing is to check for crash damage - possible Cat D?
Check service history is genuine too if possible.
For reference I was offered 31k as a trade in for my similar car (manual being main difference) last week.

Hopefully that worked.
I hate it when you never find out if they actually bought the car!
So purchase complete and the car is now mine.
Loving it and glad to have scratched the 911 itch. No real
plans for the car except to drive it and hopefully get some road trips in once the world is back to normal.
Couple of questions
How easy is retrofit of cruise control?
Should the sport chrono clock light up with the headlights?
Thanks for all your help

Cruise is about £300 to fit. Take it to an independent.
Sport Chrono clock only lights up when it is ticking, if I remember correctly...
Some preemptive maintenance can be useful, consider changing bolts on the exhaust system, as when they are rusty it's an expensive fix. Clean out rainwater drainage channels and pipes, wet carpets are a common problem.
Enjoy!

Sounds like a bargain. As said, check drain channels in bulkhead and sunroof if it has one, (hope for your sake it doesn't), also check lower doors for damp due to defective door membrane, exhaust bolts, heat shields, inner tyre wear on the rear, all suspension and oil level (switch to 5w 50 i,e, Motul Sport, Millers etc) as the miles increase, Oh and get a roll of felt tape for the inevitable rattles. These sort of things are probably common on similar age cars from other manufacturers,
Fantastic cars though - very much a sweet spot in terms of provenance, power, size and driver engagement. Many feel the 997 will be a future classic as I'm sure you know.

Hey Guys,
I'm considering buying a 997, and I'm in a lucky position to have £50k plus to spend (potentially). This isn't an investment car I want drive it, but clearly I also don't want to buy something that then depreciates like a stone!
Love the idea of the GT3, naturally aspirated is ideally what I'm looking for. I'm new to Porsche, having been a BMW fan so any advice welcome, what other models I should consider maybe? Im not particularly after luxury, more of a drivers car to have fun with, hence my initial draw towards the GT3.
Thanks!

if not a GT3 the other car I would consider is a 997.2 GTS. However manual one’s are rare/very sort after and are £60k ish. A good PDK car will be in the £50k’s. GTS is a slightly more driver focused Carrera S...suspension a bit more sporty and has the wide body which normally only the 4wd cars have, GT3’s are fantastic but depends how you are going to use it as some people wouldn’t want to daily one. Thanks for the input!
I was drawn to the GT3 purely because it is made to be a drivers car. It's s not something I plan to drive daily, more something for the weekend or when off out and about any kind of distance. And of course the noise of the engine is one of the main reasons. The 997 Turbos are beautiful cars but from a lot of the video reviews I've watched they seem to lack good engine sound.
Is a GTS something that will still hold its value to some degree?
Im presuming that gt3 parts and labour are pricey if you're advising £20k to have as a back up?

I wouldn’t rule out a turbo based on engine sound. As stock there is something a little underwhelming about the noise but that can be easily remedied with an after-market exhaust. My Sharkwerks x-pipe cost around £1.5k and completely transformed the car. Tunnel runs are much, much fun these days, especially when the revs get over 4K. I prefer the idea of a turbo manual more than the GTS but the sound was something putting me off slightly.
Taken what’s been said above seems the GT3 is going to be a bit of a stretch!
From what I gather the more desirable options to look for in the car and to help it hold the money are, coupe, no sun roof, manual, low mileage (obviously). Any other advice welcome, I have time on my side as I’m currently working abroad so can shop around.
