PD150 MK4 problem after starting
Discussion
Hi all,
So I took the plunge and bought what seems a decent golf MK4 pd150, 100k, all seems tidy but it has a problem that seems to be getting worse, or at least no better.
Most of the time now when I start (which can be reluctant, although that might be an old battery) there is loads of shaking, sounds like a lawnmower, lots of whitish smoke, and almost zero power, fuel economy almost 0. I have to slip the clutch like crazy to get it going. But, after several minutes of crawling along, and usually getting up to 2nd or so, it's like a magic switch is pressed and it runs fine as would be expected, nice and quick and nippy etc.
Not being very spannery I have taken it to a local mechanic who has changed the loom, which didn't solve it but he said was a good first gambit, cleared the codes and suggested an injector fault, I think from the codes. His test driving did not recreate the problem. Anyway I have a replacement injector ready and once he has confirmed the code he can replace the right one.
Does anyone know if he or I are missing anything important? Seems strange that after a while everything just seems to work, my limited knowledge would tell me that it's either something just heating up, and/or heating up and expanding and plugging a split/gap. Could this be the injector only?
Sorry for simpleness!
