What ho chaps.

My son is going to look at an old (07) BMW 118i.
It is listed as a 1 litre, but a quick google tells me they were perhaps a 1.5 litre three cylinder.

Has anyone had any experience of these ?

Are they worth bothering with ?

I expected it to be a four cylinder 1.8 or 2.0 litre

2007 will be the 4 cylinder of doom, N43/6. Google it then run away fast.

The 04-07 118d or 120d are the only old 1 Series worth having. You'll still find a nice tidy one for a couple of grand. 4 cyl petrol ones are just dreadful.

I’d say have a look and make your own mind up. I ran a 57 plate 120i m sport, so essentially the same engine I believe, from 70k to 225k over 7 years with no real problems.
I’ve had a supposedly reliable 2011 320D from 79 up to 120 and it’s been the worst car I’ve ever owned in terms of reliability.
So I really think it all depends on the car, have a look and see what you think.

Yes, if you got one early and looked after it an N46 can be alright. Very few N43's will ever get that far.
