MK4 golf overnight power drain
Discussion
2000 MK4 golf PD115. After years of living with a car that was struggling to fire of a morning., especially in the cold.
I changed the battery, glow-plugs., alternator, and starter motor over time in the hope i might cure the drain., nothing to date has...
Today., i found the cancer.. 👊🏻👌.
The circuit closure catch in the ignition barrel was getting stuck, and not snapping shut as i took the key out.!. One bang on the column, out of curiosity,. Allowed the catch to spring shut., and turn the connection OFF.👍. Before paying what seem to be ££ for an electrical sleuth to try and track it down.. Try cleaning up the mech on the ignition barrel. Take out your key,. And give the column a bump... see if you hear the click of the keyway closing.
That one tiny catch., right at my fingertips has had me running chargers and jump leads with me in the car for years.
