Thought I would make a central thread for the MM93 chat, as its going to an ongoing thread over the close season.

Latest news suggesting the last operation has now got an infection..... frown

https://pecinogp.com/crossing-our-fingers-for-marc...

Ive said it before, but this is really starting to feel like a Hutchy situation....

If he has got an infection, and I hope he hasnt, that could almost finish next years season before it starts.

Holy hell that all looks grim. Is this the normal course of action for the injury he got, or is it due to trying to get him back racing quicker?

Difficult to say if its because he tried to early, some will say its was, but I dont know.

Infected bone is very very bad news.

Sounds like a real mess, I'd bet he's out for next year at very least now.

Feck knows.

I thought the orginal medical team being dropped is quite telling. He's young so hopefully with the course of antibiotics his body will fight the infection well and the surgery will aid the healing process. I think it's unlikely that the season will start as planned with covid raging.

I look forward to seeing the devastating effect of his incredible talent force his opponents to up their game, in particular Mir & Quartararo.

Pieces of bone apparently taken from a corpse!!!
I can only wish him well & hope he has enough morphine - sounds bloody grim & potentially career ending......

I don't suppose we'll ever know for certain but getting back on the bike under a week after the initial injury was just ridiculous in my opinion. HRC (or the medics) should have over ruled his wishes and not let him ride. He could've taken 6 weeks off and still come to be a title contender this year.

If he'd broke his wrist or chipped a bone in his foot for example then yeah, load up with pain killers and get back on.
Big mistake to treat such a serious injury as almost trivial.
Yes, he's young and super fit but no one gets over a humerus fracture in less than a week!

Reading between the lines, I suspect the main problem was caused by an incident opening a glass door......which is all very very Rossi esq when he fell onto a table...

Ability to maintain performance over time vs injuries is what makes the special, exceptional. So many factors and inputs can determine those who may be considered the GOAT at an individual performance level. MM93 was on course to take the individual performance crown from VR46 (although not VR46's overall impact on the sport of motorcycle racing), but I reckon that may no longer be the case. This injury may be physically recovered in full over time (hopefully so), but it will almost certainly have an impact on MM93's attitude to taking risk and pushing that last 0.1% which has separated himself from the rest of the field.

What’s amazing is how innocuous the crash was many months ago.

Bone infections sound nasty. I hope he comes back bright but he will be falling off again, so I have the nagging doubt we’ve seen the best of Marquez frown

Many years ago I had physio with a guy that treated Carlos Checa after his 1998 shunt at Donington. After losing his spleen he was back riding in weeks. I had a dodgy shoulder. After that conversation I felt like a real lightweight!

These guys just aren't like normal folks. Hoping Marquez is ok.

It's not looking good.

I would love to see him back next season, but only if he has made a full recovery - no point rushing back again!

That’s what makes it so hard for the medical team to give “the right” advice. if they gave these guys the same advice they’d give you or I, they’d all be retired and sat with their feet up.

I’m not sure if Marc’s comments about it being the medical teams fault are entirely fair. They’re basing their advice on what they can see, and what he’s telling them. I think he may be inferring that they didn’t explain quite how badly this could go? But I suspect they didn’t expect him to be doing those brutal one armed lat pull downs from the video a few days after the operation.

Either way, he’s an enormous talent and obviously prepared to do whatever it takes. I hope this infection calms down and he makes a full recovery. Fingers crossed.
