Hello, I have a new RTX card arriving soon and thought to upgrade my monitor to use the full potential, 4K and 2.1 HDMI etc.

I have never thought to use a TV as a PC monitor but the above - https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/lg-oled48cx-tv-review/ is G-Sync approved, 4k, 120Hz.

It's large at 48", but will be great for games, I'm more concerned about the TV and PC combo being productive, Word, Excel, Email and general browsing.

Does anyone here use a TV as a monitor, is it recommended or should I wait for a dedicated monitor, OLED and 2.1 HDMI, to arrive next year.

Others may disagree, but I've never found a tv as good as a dedicated monitor

I would agree, but I've watched a few videos and read articles and, apart from the size and cost, it seems better than most dedicated monitors available at displaying content. My worry is the size and productivity.

I would suggest 48 is too big for a working desk based on youtube videos I have seen of this tv.

I use a 27 inch for desk working and 40 inch tv for armchair browsing.
There is no doubt this tv is a good as any monitor. Its just huge

I think it'd be too large to use in comfort, also the risk of OLED burn-in is much greater with a PC.

We have some big Phillips ones at work, from memory 43 inch, and they're fine. Not sure I'd want one window taking up the whole screen, but you can have several smaller windows open at once. 4k is a must at that size.

It depends on how far away you want to sit away from the screen. I've used 37" on some desk space before and found it too big.

I use a 40" 4K TV as a monitor - no (serious) gaming though so 60hz is fine. Works well, 100 or 125% scaling for general desktop use. It's a bit like having a 34" ultrawide but with more vertical space.

Only annoyance in everyday use is needing to the the remote for power and input switching, or the fiddly control on the back if the kids have been using my desk and moved the remote somewhere.

As an aside I have this TV as a TV and it's great (apart from the lack of All 4). For a monitor I use a LG UltraWide 38WN95C which is excellent.

I use last years model, the C9, 65” though.

Bought from JL and picked up the 5 year screen burn warranty at the same time. Was £140 but at least I don’t have to give a damn about screen burn, especially as my kids use it while I’m not there.

Absolutely fantastic for gaming IMO. HDR and 4K/60 & 120 supported. Best PC monitor I’ve ever used in fact. It’s also GSync Compatible and can utilise VRR over HDMI 2.1.

Only downside is that you need to go big on graphics cards if you want good performance due to being 4K. Currently waiting for the Nvidia 3090FE to come back into stock as my 2 year old 2080Ti just doesn’t have the legs these days, particularly if you want to use RT.

PS5 looks great on it but really can’t wait for my new GPU and Cyberpunk 2077.

Just thought to update. I bought the LG in December and have used it since then as a PC monitor for work and for gaming. In both applications it works beautifully.

In Windows shrink to fit word docs, for engineering drawings go full screen for detail, perfect. PDFs can be opened and scattered and viewed with clarity, Excel is also great. Gaming is fabulous, as expected.

To help against burn I hide screen icons and task bar but after using for a few months for 12 hours a day there's been no issues.

Sharing docs over Teams is an issue, I can see full detail in quarter of the screen whereas others on 15" laptops struggle.

I sit around 600mm away and have suffered no eye strain etc. All is good!
