How to rotate rear wheel?
Discussion
This is a novice question but how do I rotate a rear wheel on a front wheel drive, do I have to jack up both rear wheels at the same time, take the handbrake off and have it in neutral or should one rear wheel be able to rotate individually?
It's a solid axel from one rear to the other on a FWD so they both have to rotate at the same time?

Say what?
Both wheels should rotate freely and independently once the handbrake is released.
That's what I initially thought, the handbrake is off but the wheel will not rotate given a good bit of force, what's likely happening and to follow on from my other thread, the caliper piston won't retract so I don't know if these two are connected, it could point to some problem with the handbrake. Could I have damaged the handbrake when I took the caliper off and it causing it to stay on even though I've released it?Both wheels should rotate freely and independently once the handbrake is released.

At this point what have you done the the brakes?
I've taken off the caliper and pads. That's it. I've then tried to rotate wheel so I can get in at the caliper bracket bolts but wheel won't budge. I don't have the wheel back on either.F20CN16 said:
Looking at your other threads, it looks like you never did wind in the piston? But now you’ve put the wheel back on and it won’t spin. So you still need to wind that piston in. Does the piston look corroded?
I haven't put the wheel on, I tried to rotate the hub just holding the backplate. The piston doesn't look corroded, looks ok.Edited by RR76 on Saturday 12th December 09:01

So the caliper is removed and the wheel will not turn? Looks like you need new bearings then.
Where are you based?
The car was working fine, it makes no sense that the wheel bearing would just go after removing a caliper it would need significant forces acting on it. It's more likely a handbrake or abs sensor problem. Where are you based?

What are you trying to rotate? The back plate shouldn't rotate. Just the central hub / flange.
Are you saying I need to put wheel back on before I can rotate the whole thing?thebraketester said:
Take a photo of what you’re trying to rotate. The hub On its own or the hub with the brake disc on should still rotate
So I want to rotate it to the right about 45degrees. I'm just holding the backplate and trying to turn it.https://i.ibb.co/LpPmXxT/IMG-20201212-092713.jpg
You need to rotate the disc independent of the hub behind to align the holes in the disc with the threaded holes in the hub. They will rotate independently but sometimes get stuck together. Give the disc a wiggle as you try to rotate it. It will go as it has it has obviously moved out of alignment whilst you've been working on it.
Your next problem is you've managed to pull the caliper piston dust cover boot out of the caliper, the only way your getting that back in is by removing the piston completely and reseating the boot.
You really need someone who knows what they are doing to either supervise what you're doing or just do it while you watch and learn. There's nothing wrong with that, it's how we all started.
Do not drive it until someone has checked it thoroughly.
