Luther Vandross dies

I have only shed a tear for immediate family memebers apon their passing. However, tonight, whilst playing a track and talking about the phenomenal music of the great man online with a friend I saw the news and burst out crying.

Absolutely devestated as he was my absolute favourite singer of all time. Thankfully I am in NY so will be able to attend the memorial. Friend is flying across the world now to make it for the memorial.

Unbelievable.

Tonight and forever more a legend will Rest In Peace.

come one now. You never saw Luther with a young lady, never had any kids and the man delievered some serious love in his lyrics with a voice from heaven which made women everywhere (and me) want to melt. Not a hint of roughness in his voice. Teddy Pendergrass had that rough edge. Barry White sang for the women to get the women. Luther sang to the women because he loved to sing.

Just like the best fashion designers who seem to understand how to do things for a woman better than anyone else....... they are gay.

Good on him for keeping his private life private though. It was sort of like George Michael, everyone in the industry knew and then when he came out with it, everyone else looked back at the Wham vids and said "of course".

uh...yeah. You shouldn't say that a person is replacable. "So he's dead; we can get another" is a tiny bit crass.

If you meant that as an artist, he was a relative unknown, or very similar to others, like the way certain artists can be grouped together and all called "The Britneys" (because they're so similar to Ms. Spears) well, that's one thing. It can be said that many artists of a certain genre are a dime a dozen. But still, someone's lack of originality or fame doesn't really reflect on their worth or right to exist as a human being. And I think your comment can be seen that way, regardless of how you meant it.

I don't even like his music, but apparently he contributed a great deal artistically and musically to the happiness of others, so I'm sorry that he's dead, for those who were fans.

I think he'd had some health problems over many years, is that right?
