I wouldn't normally buy this but given that I normally work in hospitality, this is the first Xmas and New Year I have off in around ten years so I'll be making the most of being at home.

Being 42, I remember as a youngster, my dad buying both the Xmas editions the TV Times and Radio Times. You had to buy both as TV Times covered the commercial channels and Radio Times covered BBC. Nowadays, Radio Times covers it all.

So, for old times sake, I'll be buying my copy tomorrow and will be avidly circling the programmes I'd like to watch over the festive period. Does anyone else partake in this?

I still buy it, mainly out of tradition I think as I’ve lost count of the times it’s been launched into the post-Christmas recycling without being properly thumbed.

I blame Pistonheads, YouTube and the Sky planner for distracting me.

Offered my 7 year old the chance to run through it with a pen to highlight the ones she wants to watch and she politely declined...

At least this year’s doesn’t have the massive holiday section rammed in the middle which usually ruins the stapling as I try to extract it.

Banned this year along with the Monopoly surely due to COVID-19?

Not any more, but just yesterday we were reminiscing about exactly the same.

Rush back from the newsagent with the Christmas Radio and TV Times to meticulously plan the fortnight's viewing.

Stack of VHS tapes by the TV, ready to record the blockbuster movies which were premiering about a year after they'd been at the flicks.

Arguments about what to watch if James Bond clashed with Indiana Jones.

Different times.

We religiously bought the Christmas Radio Times but I’ve got the 14 day TV Times on Readly now so that’s another tradition gone and our festive viewing will selected by iPad. Bah humbug.

Used to look forward to the quirky vintage stuff at Christmas.
Keaton, Chaplin, Marx brothers etc.

I'm 47 and I still have to have both. Christmas isn't Christmas until I've got hold of both of them for me! biggrin

It is probably a complete waste of money, but I do really enjoy the tradition of it for sure.

Same price as last year i think? It's normally £3.30 for the regular weekly issue, so £5 for a combined 2 weeks worth isn't that bad tbh.

Bloody hell, I didn’t realise it was that expensive, though I suppose lots of magazines are now. There was a display with loads of both while I was queuing in the Co-op yesterday, but I didn’t feel tempted to buy one.

Bought yesterday and spent an hour going through and circling the gems.

I always look forward to the RI Christmas lectures which has been punted round the less fashionable time slots in recent years but is on 3 consecutive nights at 8pm on BBC4. This years’ topic is ‘Planet Earth: a User’s Guide’
