Clark Gable was a cool guy. He was always well dressed, and he liked watches too. I stumbled across this article that mentions a couple of his watches.

https://quillandpad.com/2020/05/29/clark-gable-wea...

Gable and his wife, the beautiful and witty Carole Lombard, really were the King and Queen of Hollywood, but he never got over her untimely death in an air crash during WW2 whilst on a tour to promote War Bonds. Gable went to Europe and flew as an air gunner on bombing missions.

Thanks for that. Been watching a lot of classic movies this year and always trying to figure out what watches they are wearing. Slight thread derail but watching mirage I noticed Gregory Peck wearing this nice looking Juvenia.

I always like plain dress watches with a single sub index for the second hand, like that one.

Turner Classic Movies is a fave channel, but although you can admire the clothes the watches are usually blink and you miss it.

Same they’re just timeless style wise and I’ve noticed that. This particular shot was a long pause instant pause screen shot then off to google for some more info. I wonder if it was a product placement at the time.

This one looks to be in poor cosmetic condition -

Erm.... ooops.

Haggled that one from 199 to 175 Euros. Good luck with the one you are after!

As per my Incoming post, I got a bit of a surprise when I opened the link in the OP.

I got this a few days ago: A Fortis Terrestis
I

I liked it because it is an unusual design, particularly for Fortis, but it looks like a direct copy of the Patek Philippe as worn by Clark Gable.

I think everyone would agree, I have a touch of the Clark Gable about me, and this basically confirms it.

Winning. That one looks nice and clean. Theres quite a few NOS Juvenia watches. The blue face silver case caught my eye as well. Might have to do some more reading. I'll keep you posted if i do go for one.

Thanks,

it's an auto with an ETA 2895 movement.

40mm dial but wears bigger because of the slim bezel and less than 8mm thick.

Fortis aren't really known for dress watches, so I think these have been discontinued, but if it's good enough for Clark, it's good enough for me.

I'm not a fan of gold watches, but that is just very, very right.
