Obviously James Allen fancies himself as a true replacement for Murray Walker.

as dear old MW once said,

"those that can, do! and those that can't, talk about it!"

so what about those that can't talk about it, what do they do?

I thought that was George Bernard-Shaw who actually said, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach".

He is allegedly a professional commentator - that`s what he is supposed to do best.

He has had a few years to try and establish a rapport with his audience and has not succeeded - time to move on.

Of course, Sniff Petrol (where the Schumacher picture comes from) is where the James Allen Bashing seems to have originated:

He is a bit annoying to be fair! As others have said, it is not an easy job, but whereas Murray would realise his mistakes when pointed out to him, Allen just seems to carry on and slightly change his story.

I was having a beer with a well known commentator who does bikes and cars and Allen is equally unpopular within the business as well. He is an ARSE.

I'm surprised I hadn't noticed it before but there was an author called James Allen who, I think, lived in the 19th century.

He wrote a very interesting book called "As A Man Thinketh".

I don't think our James Allen does a lot of thinking.

Just thinking of James Allen's F1 commentary makes me want to chew my own ears off. I never recall wanting to turn the sound down when Murray was commentating. Nowadays, I mentally tune out of the commentary until Brundle says something, or a pitlane report comes in.

Whilst googling for The Author James Allen I had the misfortune to accidentally locate the website belonging to That Cock James Allen's agent. Accompanied by a fetching photograph of the culprit (sadly not one of him about to be squished by an Acme 50-ton weight), it describes him thus:

someone breaching the trades description act said:
James Allen’s interest in motorsport came from his father, Bill, a professional racer in the 1960’s. Although he raced motorcycles and karts for pleasure, he chose a career behind the microphone rather than behind the wheel. His sharp and informative commentary from the pit lane has been one of the most popular elements of ITV Sport’s multi award winning Formula 1 coverage. Groomed by ITV as the successor to Murray Walker, he took over the lead role in 2001 and has contributed greatly to ITV’s enhanced coverage of the increasingly popular Formula 1 series.

James’s profile continues to increase constantly as Formula 1 reaches mass audiences around the world, which has resulted in his demand as a host of corporate events and as a speaker in his own right.

Given that the same agency also has Perry McCarthy (having read his autobiography he sounds like a much more interesting guy), I doubt poor James gets many bookings, despite indicating he's available to do... err... pretty much anything really. Maybe I should hire him to attend something important, like the opening of my sock drawer.
