I know what many will say that do lots of welding, but I don't.
I may make a few fence repair stakes one month, do a bit of car welding another month etc. etc.
On top of this I would like to have the ability to try to tig perhaps.
My old mig welder (while still working) is past its best, and I see these things advertised and wonder if it will actually do what it says, even if in a rudimentary manner.

Has anyone ever tried one or something similar?

Not used that - most of my mig was with a HD industrial Miller unit that could weld 10-12 hours a day. I did some work on a mates VW van with his wee handyman one though, and I would say get one that you can use BOC gas bottles on. you'll run out a lot with the small handyman bottles and the welds are better with bottled gas rather than flux cored wire.
