got a new d70.. keep getting an intermittent message on the screen CHR keeps coming up where the count remaining shows, have to switch the camera off and back on to remove it. i know its a cf card error.
First card i bought wouldnt format said CHR all the time, sent that one back.
New one works but on occations dosent... Is it a camera fault do you think or a card fault?

what card are you using? have you tried a different brand?

it could be a camera prob if it happens on all cards...

go to the shop where you got it and try lots of cards

mmm, hate to say it, but it may well be a camera problem - I've used several different brands of CF card in my D70, and I've never seen CHR on the display...

Sounds like a vanilla answer, but when I had a "prob" with my D100 a couple of years back, I called the UK Nikon helpline...actually one of the very few (if not only) helpline that I thought knew their stuff and fixed prob in one call (it was actually a convoluted setting I had casually enabled, put the camera down for a few weeks and forgot all about it, user error!). Also spoke with them again about another query 6 months ago, again, very helpful...

Been in touch with Nikon helpline... Very helpfull... Im Impressed with their efficiency and knowledge. They sugested re formatting the card, and trying a card with a higher speed, so gone with an 80x.. so far ok.. will have to wait and see...

Good stuff, fingers crossed.

...incidentally, high speed cards made little to no diff when i used them on my PDA (HP iPaq)...in fact, things like TomTom route planning took FOREVER...standard card is far faster...weird!....SANDisk couldn't offer an opinion or explaination as to why...ho-hum...useless info there for everyone!
