My Dad's 12v battery in his 2016 Yaris is failing, and genuine Toyota ones are £150 even on ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-TOYOTA-YARIS-12...

but same size is only £40 from Tayna.

The battery is mounted inside the car under the rear seat so is there something special about it e.g. safe to be in the passenger compartment

Toyota one from pic seems to be an AGM one hence more expensive.

Tanya list EFB batteries in that size for a Yaris hybrid.

Still not the same as a AGM battery but more suitable than the basic lead acid batteries you linked to. Have you looked at the car to see what type of battery is fitted?

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the battery on my mother’s car. Some websites listed lead acid batteries for it, others listed EFB or AGM batteries. The car came from new with AGM so that is what I fitted as a replacement (Halfords was cheapest with the trade discount).

Try the Toyota online service booking: https://www.toyota.co.uk/online-service-booking

I recently had the hybrid battery replaced on my Prius and it was £125 installed by Toyota compared to £140 from their parts department. ECP wanted £240!

They can be funny with 12v hybrid batteries so I recommend using Toyota.

Definitely go to Toyota and get one fitted. I recently had a new battery fitted to my Lexus hybrid for £125. That included a safety check and wash and vac!
Hybrids are very fussy when 12 volt batteries are concerned. A wrong one can cause all sorts of problems.

Turns out a drive to the next motorway junction and back got the battery back up to 14v. He was doing lots of short journeys, and the battery only charges when the ICE is running.

Epilogue... the 12v battery kept dying, so Toyota replaced it for £130.

It wasn't covered under the 5 years warranty as he used an indie who didn't follow the Toyota servicing schedule.
