Disco 4 or Range Rover sport.

Hello,
So I have a Land Rover itch to scratch for my next car. Bit nervous and aware of the various issues but going to go for it never the less.
Trying to decide between the latest rrs or the disco 4. New defender a wild card but probably a bit pricey.
Looking to keep the car for about 3 years
Likely a third party pcp or hp
20-30k / 400-600 per month plus few k deposit
Likely will buy 3rd party warranty if no decent available
Occasional off-road for shooting and camping, mostly a family cruiser but live in the country. Lots of driving on country roads
Worried about camshaft issue on sdv6 so tempted by the v8 if I go for the rrs.
Much difference in reliability? From my reading it's not great for the disco and very bad for the Rangie.
Thought the rrs was smaller but it appears the length and width are greater on the sport. Suprised me!
Won't do any serious towing.
Servicing/repair costs much difference?
Wife might prefer the rrs but not now I know it's bigger!

Disco4 is a lot bigger than the RRS....proper 7seats and without the 7seats it can carry a massive boot full of stuff. The Disco4 is a bit like a utility car, whereas the RRS you will want to keep it looking smart.
Might be worth looking into a warranty that just covers the engine issues on the SDV6, other than that its mainly maintenance items. V8 Diesel is suppose to be solid....which is why I've gone for that in the RR

I was sure disco was bigger. I know it is in height but figures from the internet suggest otherwise when it comes o dimensions that matter for parking etc. Second width figure is with wing mirrors btw.

I suspect the RR is bigger than all of those mentioned but inside its got no where near the space of the Disco. I suspect some of it is the spare wheel, in the RR its a 22 inch full size job in the boot. On the D4 its underneath, not sure on the RRS.
V8diesel is lovely..I found on the motorway with the D4 it was happy at 70ish, the RR with the V8d is surprisingly quick. The D4 is a heavy machine and not exactly aerodynamic. I averaged 30mpg+ with both.

Yes it's interesting and surprising about size because the usable space in the d4 is so much bigger. It's height also makes it very imposing.
Length and width are what concern my wife though as that is what matters for both parking and letting others pass on our narrow country lanes. It seems the d4 makes sense in that regard but would be a bit more wobbly in the corners.
I probably prefer the whole image thing from the d4 as well as the rrs is a wee but footballers wives.
In terms of adding up pros and cons it's pretty even either side for me which is what makes it so tricky. That sdv6 paranoia may clinch it. Such a shame because when I test drove it it was lovely. Plenty fast enough, super smooth etc.

We've had Discos in the family forever, currently on a late D4 and it's been ruthlessly reliable (actually all our discos have) They all end up being swapped out once they hit around 150k miles.
The D4 was a massive leap in terms of refinement, and wouldn't choose a RRS over it. The practicality mixed with comfort makes it a staple for the family. It swallows up multiple trips a year to the alps fully loaded, and gets around 26mpg doing so.

Sdv6 only blows up less than 1 percent of the time it seems.

I'd say its higher than 1%. When I sold my D4 I sold the wheels separately to a guy with a D4....he had his engine swapped because of it. I ran my D4 without knowing of the issue and I enjoyed the ownership..as you say once you know something like this can crop up it puts you off buying or owning.

Only one kid so far and no real reason to justify the size of either tbh.

Rrs more tech, better round my country roads, better depreciation (maybe), lovely v8 option, faster, better infotainment on 2017+
