Do you mean the 993 6 speed box (G50 variant) or the 996 cable change 6 speed box?

I have heard of both being fitted to Ultimas, but have no direct experience of the fitment. The 993 should be easy enough, but it is not as strong as the 5 speeders apparently. The factory will be able to help - see the contact details at www.ultimasports.co.uk

I'm not sure if the gearbox had its own 'brain' unless it was the Tiptronic version (but that was four speed). Interesting. I suppose it could have done, and it might want to link into the ECU to function correctly, but surely the box would still physically run without it...

The only thing that may happen is if the ECU in a 993 used the gearbox info for rev or speedo information, or to limit the revs or torque in certain gears (993 twin turbos have a weak 1st or something, so this may be feasible). But if you didn't connect the brain up, the box should still turn, it would just throw up error codes on a 993 ECU and create problems for the speedo or rev counter if it was feeding them. You haven't got a 993 ECU in an Ultima, and you can sort the instruments in a number of ways. So it shouldn't be insurmountable - just leave the gearbox brain disconnected.

Hmmm, may be talking bollocks, so hope some others chime in. Ted is best placed to help, really. Or one of his minions. Most people have put in the 5 speed G50, hence the lack of replies.

Cheers

Maybe this is of interest to Stig.

Gareth's car has 644bhp, so although Stig's may have more torque, the 993 G50 may be a goer.

I have seen them for sale as well, for about 1200 quid.

Yup, I'm running a 600bhp supercharger from American Speed. Going for a G50 and a few are becoming available now (at last!).
