Speaking to someone who spends a lot of time in the paddock yesterday. He said Williams have been investing and next year the car should be a lot better.
I was therefore really pleased to see this..

I really hope they have a good season on 2021

Very briefly he seemed to be a big Mclaren signing, then left pretty quickly from what I remember. Has a good pedigree, hopefully this is the start of a very real fight back to the front. (A return to Canon or Rothmans sponsorship would be nice too, Y'know!? Bypassing that pesky Tobacco sponsorship ban :-)

I hope they’re spending no money on 2021, it’s all about being competitive in 2022
I generally agree, although it's a tricky one for them. Sadly their performance has been poor enough for long enough for sponsors to depart (and the money replaced by ridiculous seat selling - Ticktum...) and they really, really, really need to beat Haas next year and perhaps even greater to get the vital sponsor money back in. If they don't do that, the new owners have a dead duck before they even begin to think about the future.2022 should be their target year for a come back, I agree. And they surely have an opportunity as do all teams in a shake up. But imo it's also a very worthwhile target next year to beat Haas - there is value in not being the joke team in F1! Especially when sponsorship is concerned.
As with many things, an extreme either/or solution is not the optimum solution. Probably best they do 'enough' to cement a modest rise in performance next year and then shift focus onto 22.
They just need to stop trundling around at the back being (literally) entirely pointless!

I’d agree with you, but it’s the end of the current regulations so very little carry over into 2022. The difference in finishing 9th rather than 10th is peanuts, so sad to say 2021 will be a write off 2022 should be their target year for a come back, I agree. Far easier to appeal to a sponsor after a year where you've beaten another team than it is in a year where you're dead last! Very few brands seek attachment to 'losers'.
Like I said, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. They just have to find a way to not be last again next year and that will hugely help their search for major sponsors for 22 and beyond. That is important - alongside obviously ploughing as much in to the new regs 22 car as they can.
Also in terms of industry respect and self respect/team motivation, I'm sure they would like to at least beat Haas - a team which get's it's new F1 car delivered off the shelf from Dallara each time it's refreshed. I think it's a reasonable and sensible target for next year, and in fact any year given that they make their own car in-house as a traditional constructor. #atleastbeathaas

I know a couple of people at McLAren & the people on the shop floor thought Capito was the business. Proper old-school racing geezer. They were very sad to see him go because they had all bought in to what he wanted to do. He'll be just the right sort to turn Williams around if they let him get on with it.
