I have an outdoor capable AP that uses passive 24v POE

I want to se this up in the garden and there just happens to be an old Sat dish with high quality WF100 coax.

OK so a pair of EOC LINOVISION POE IP Over Coax from Amazon for under 70 notes and powered a 48v switch seems ideal.

However I need 24v at the other end.

The question is can I simply use an outdoor 48v to 24v converter at the AP end ??

What bandwith/bit rate are you hoping to get over that connection?

Even half the quoted 0.1 Gigabits Per Second is more than enough.

It's just for a couple of CCTV cameras. Massive garden.

I could send just 24v down the the coax, use the supplied injector and use the repeater mode but I'm finding repeater mode to be a tad unreliable on 2.4ghz. Walls of the house are very thick with foil insulation too so signal to the indoor router is minimal.

I would prefer a wired setup even if i've to fork out some cash as security of the property is priority right now.

Couple of car batteries = 24v. You can combine that with a solar panel to charge them.

For not much more than £70 you could just buy the mesh ap that uses proper Poe and power it from one of their newer switches like the us-8 60w (I’m currently powering the flex hd with one of those).

That's a £100 switch, for not much more than £70.

The cheapest managed 8 port PoE switch I'm aware of is the D-Link DGS-1100-08P, which is currently powering a 6 Lite fine.

Depends if you want to manage it all in the UniFi system.

Yes, as long as you can get 48v to the converter, one of those should convert it to 24v passive POE.

I used one of those with a 48v POE switch and an 'overlength' cat-5 cable with the converter in the middle to power a 24v UBNT outdoor P-t-P access point. It worked fine...

In an ideal world, yes, but not at a £40 premium per switch for half as many PoE ports.

Cheers! This should hopefully make things all work a good bit better.
