they are the worst, these people.
I used to like her a bit when she was younger, and when she would get annoyed with those idiots every week on her programme about house renovations, because the market was booming so they made money every time despite spending £30k on a bathtub etc. I even didn't hate her when she did up that manor house on the cheap (relatively)... but this new programme... they are so out of touch with the rest of the nation. They've seemingly got unlimited money to throw at every problem, so there is no real story or tension in the programme. They sound like they're just playing at everything and don't really understand what they are doing. They can get away with years and years of not working or lifting a finger, and they just stand around whilst 50 hard-working labourers build their dream for them.
They get annoyed at the planners because they're taking a bit of time to consider their application to build a massive concrete monstrosity on farmland and change use have all sorts of businesses there... the bit where he buys a f
king tractor and goes wheee i'm like a real farmer! Just f
k off!!
He lost is heirloom ring that was handed down to him and so employed a team of metal detector guys to find it, which they of course did. That was like 50% of one of the episodes.
It's like if you took Escape to the Chateau and removed everything likeable about the programme and the people.... It's safe to say i am not a fan.

Until that point I was trying to work out how you felt....
I get the feeling that they commissioned the series then hit planning delays, which means that every episode is 90% filler as almost nothing happened over the period they had to film.
They do come across as wealthy Londoners playing at being country squires. They seem completely unable to understand why plonking a repro country house in the middle of agricultural land in an area they have previously had no connection with might upset a few people and cause a headache for planners.

To me, she seems to have the balls that most in this country lack!
She got out of bed and went to work and built up a portfolio while bringing up 4 kids she gave birth too.
Now she wants/has built a house the way she wants and do something I would not do, allow a TV film crew to film it so it can be ripped apart by those that are nothing more than envious of her hard graft, lets face it, she's not a 'Harry and Meg' about to make a few billion for using a royal title, she's a women who seems to me to have grafted with the brains she has and to wear her heart on her sleeve and have it filmed, I understand why she would open her life up to a film crew, it will funds the projects to a degree.
Good on the girl I say.

I've never really been a fan, and am certainly not in the "would bang" camp but have watched a bit of this current program and the above is totally SPOT ON.To me, she seems to have the balls that most in this country lack!

Hard working and yet a decent person (and family) doesn't even begin to cover it.

If you think that's bad try her show 'How to live mortgage free' on Netflix at the mo. Covers stories that any of us ordinary folk could aspire to, such as converting a luxurious caravan on a flatbed trailer and parking it on a spare corner of paddock rent free on your wealthy parents farm, or building a canal-side apartment using nothing more than the proceeds from your £100k houseboat sale.
Anyone can sidestep the rat race and live mortgage free with the right 'mindset' my arse

I haven't watched the programme, but I don't agree that critics are only jealous. That's an easy, lazy criticism of people who just don't like the progs. To me, she seems to have the balls that most in this country lack!

And I found myself on their side over the planning thing (in light of the above). I could not fathom why it would take so long to approve. There does not seem to be any performance requirements from planners & there should be at least a requirement to advise applicants of when they will get a decision.
Obviously not all decisions are quick or easy but they can do much better than just leaving people in the dark.

head londoners with no problems who have the money to s
t away on whatever they want. She isn't struggling to make it, or taking massive risks, they are just minted w
kers now. Not jealousy, they can do what the f
k they want, but i don't want to watch a programme made of it, because it's not interesting... there is no struggle. Pothole said:

k no!!! I don't call that jealousy. Wombat3 said:
Yep, I'll go with that. Some of the program is a bit contrived but equally I am interested in how they are going to build this house (the ICF etc). Lets not also forget this is a 220 acre disused dairy farm where there was already planning permission to build a substantial house, just in a different place. They will also be removing the eyesore that is there. its also plain to see that they plan to do something with it to generate economic activity of one description or another.
And I found myself on their side over the planning thing (in light of the above). I could not fathom why it would take so long to approve. There does not seem to be any performance requirements from planners & there should be at least a requirement to advise applicants of when they will get a decision.
Obviously not all decisions are quick or easy but they can do much better than just leaving people in the dark.
if they had suitable planning consent for the planned development then why would they spend 2 episodes bAnd I found myself on their side over the planning thing (in light of the above). hing about the planning department and saying they are ruining their dream... that the builders simply can't wait any longer (in reality they are being held on a massive retainer and are probably watching pron with their feet up). Blown2CV said:

As above, planning is a public service & for sure it needs to be done right but I think the way applicants are just left in limbo is indeed very, very unhelpful The communication out of planning offices could and should be dramatically improved. I am sure the current situation is very nice/comfortable for the planners (because its so unaccountable) but its something that should be done much better IMO.
You know this about their builders for a fact? Otherwise, I highly doubt they would be on a retainer & they generally will just disappear over the hill & start another project where they can
