I'm looking to buy an N57 3.0 diesel engined X5. I've just seen an ad showing the dials and the idle rpm looks a little low to me....am I being paranoid or does anyone else think that the idle revs are too low and if they are too low, what is the most likely reason for this? Thanks in advance smile

Pretty sure my N57 is similar. It’ll probably run out of fuel if it idled any faster.....

From memory mine is around 670 - 680 rpm when at normal operating temperature.

Seems about right, ours idles around 600rpm with no load, with ac and other high drain items it would rise a little but not by much.

Might want to take a full jerry can with you if you're buying that one.

Hey, I googled the idling speed and found this old post about it. I have 535D f11 (299hp) it is idling at 650-680rpm. Searched the network and found out it should be at 700rpm. I ended up fixing it by adjusting idling rpm on ISTA. Yes you can do that through DDE. I went for 710rpm now because i have this really annoying harmonic squeek at 650-680 it goes away right after 700. Ended up solving it the cheapest way possible so free. And when you think about the oil pressures etc it is actually good for it not to idle too low. Many diesels are even over 800 so that 650 sounded like a pushrod v8😄
