2015 Focus Clutch Pedal Got Lower Then Stuck
Discussion
Hi folks,
Done a lot of research but not sure how to diagnose this.
2015 Ford Focus Zetec S 43k miles, couple of weeks ago whilst parking my son said clutch has stuck down, lifted back up with foot and thought nothing of it.
Today after a short 8 mile or so trip, wife reported the clutch getting lower and lower for the last couple of miles, made it home but clutch pedal was down very low, very little travel left and was unable to select any gear, I jumped in and tried to lift it with my foot and it felt stuck so pushed it on the drive.
Left car for 30 mins or so whilst doing a bit of googling, went out to the car, grabbed the pedal by hand and it lifted back to normal postion with ease.
Since lifting it and just testing on the driveway, the clutch operation feels completely normal and all gears select with ease.
Any idea how to diagnose this, I would rather do my own diagnostic before giving in and letting Ford guess and change every part at some extortionate price.
There is nothing the pedal could have jammed on, the return spring looks fine and the pedal assembly doesn't seem to have anything broken or loose. I don't see any fluid around the master cylinder in the footwell, the resevoir level looks normal, any thoughts welcome.
TIA

I didn’t try to lift it by hand when it first got back just tried to ping it with my foot, wish I had taken a closer look. When I did try it by hand it came straight up, although as you say could be heat related and it had cooled down.
Took it for a drive just now and it’s working as normal at the moment, I’ve seen reports on ST forums mentioning similar problems that some just ignore, some say could be master cylinder sticking, can’t replicate it at the moment so not sure what to do.

Quick update in case anyone finds this, decided to change the clutch master cylinder as that is the only bit I could tackle myself really, pig of a job mainly working out how to get the clutch pedal out from under the footwell, finally worked it out clutch pedal had to be manouvered UNDER the brake pedal before it would come out.
Comparing the old cylinder with a new one, the old one didn't feel great, a bit graunchy and sticky, a lot more force was needed to pull out the piston and it was near impossible to get a smooth movement from it, I could easily see this causing the problem as the pedal spring was probably not strong enough to pull the piston back.
Did a pressure bleed and the clutch feels good, only time will tell if this was the fix, fingers crossed!
