What do people on here do for Xmas eve food?

Last year I did a whole roasted Turbot - which involved getting up at 4:00am to visit Billingsgate. Not fancying that this year, so looking for something special that will provide a nice contrast to Xmas day (which will be beef wellington).

Christmas Eve for me was always some kind of epic fish - like your turbot! Must be an easier way to get something nice than up at 4.00am.....

Failing that, it's Christmas Eve and you'll be doing enough cooking the next day! Get yourself a curry in!

We always have homemade cheese and ham quiche.
Ham that we have boiled ourselves. Decent mature cheese cheddar and all the egg yolks that we didnt use from the royal icing from the christmas cake mixed in.

Trying to remember what I've done. Cod and chorizo stew one year, this year I'm thinking of HFW's Baker's shoulder of lamb, but that's mostly because I have a large shoulder in the freezer and little prospect apart from Xmas of having enough people around to do it justice.

Has to be fish!

This year I'm doing hot smoked fillets of graying with a crayfish sauce and pike quenelles on a bed water cress and sorrel, served with a root vegetable gratin and braised baby fennel and leeks.

that sounds a lot more effort than a Pot Noodle that's for sure!

Bit late to this but we have taken to having a fish pie on Xmas eve. Dead easy especially if I’m organised an pre prepared it. Fetch out of the freezer the night before then cook for 45 mins in the evening.
