Stupid question ref advertised speed?
Discussion
Likely a stupid question but need to order broadband this weekend.
Looking for WiFi for the first time since arriving back here in Blighty. According to moneysavingexpert using my postcode etc I can get 66mb/S with BT or plus net unlimited fibre however zen who seem to get really good reviews here say I can only get unlimited fibre 1 with. 31mb/S???
Have an existing deco mesh system to cover a reasonably large house so don’t need the bt multiroom thing.
I have two teenagers who stream heavily (also Mrs G) and I wfh with a lot of video calls so need the highest speed I can get, at the same time not wanting to overpay for something that is impossible to get.
Who is telling the truth here???
Thanks PH
Some of the cheaper packages put an artificial cap on speed.

Many thanks - seems like zen is the way forward unless anyone has another view?
I have been with them for 14 years, not the cheapest but they don't traffic shape or impose speed limits artificially. If you have a problem (I have had to contact them twice in 14 years) they just fix it.MarkGArgyle said:

Zen are very good, but they will never be the cheapest: I've been with them for years. The BT checker is a bit confusing about the FTTP situation as in one place it says it's available & lower down it says it isn't. You could always ask Zen or have a look on Samknows.https://availability.samknows.com/broadband/
Did you check Virgin Media? It won’t show up on BT’s checker but check with them directly. If you’re in their area you should be able to get up to 600Mbps. Light years ahead of anything BT can offer unless you can get FTTP, which it doesn’t look like you can.

Yeah i would always suggest Virgin.
You get what they sell you, not "up to".
The people who have problems have unresolved infrastructure problems in their area. Most customers have no issues and it just works. I pay for 100Meg and get 100Meg.
Nolimits and I game too, and always get some of the lowest pings, when everyone moans about server lags.

Virgins router and support is terrible though, so factor in buying your own.Edited by LunarOne on Sunday 20th December 01:13
