Had this 987 almost a month now, so far so good. Shortest day of the year seemed a good time for a wash in fading light.
Half roll cage bolted in, so another track day preparation box ticked. The guys at swmotorsports.uk were really great. They have great value "off the shelf" bolt in half cages for track day use. If they don't have a pattern for your model they will scan your car, cut the bars onsite and assemble one. Not surprising they are so knowledgeable, their main line appears to be installing pukka regulation cages for race cars.
Booking into local specialist Strasse for further work on brakes etc in the New Year.

Previous owner undertook extensive mods for hillclimb competition, also including 3.7 conversion and map options, intake&exhaust, brakes, KW suspension, wheels, seats and some other composite parts to reduce weight.
Was advertised on here, so some folks will have seen of know the car.

Wow. Sounds a great spec. Mine also due to Strasse for further mods shortly but unfortunately not a 3.7 conversion. Would love an oversized conversion but it will have to wait....
Incidentally was that plate on a Speed Yellow 996 turbo or Gt2 in the past? Thought I saw it at Strasse if so...

And yes the reg was on my 996 GT2 for the last 15 years.

Fyi I saw your ad for the strut brace on 911uk and pm'd you but in hindsight I think it would compromise my car a bit more than benefit so I have sent you a note to say no thanks after all. Apologies for that...
I see you're in Yorkshire. Im North Leeds so would be good to meet some time if ever possible as my 987.1 S has similar mods but not the oversize engine is out of reach currently but on a wish list.
Car currently has KW V3, lower arms, R geo etc. Manifolds, exhaust, filter, braided lines, short shift, seats, etc etc. Getting LSD, LWFW, Gt3 M/C, RS mounts, low temp stat etc in Jan...Should be really good then but will see..A 3.7 or 3.9 would top it all off but I've never been in one to see if the difference is enough to warrant selling the kids...

Your Cayman mods sound pretty comprehensive. Strasse are really great guys. Are trackdays your goal?
Happy to meet so you can feel the 3.7 engine’s character difference, but sadly, probably not until the local C19 guidance allows. Am not too far away in Tier 3 NE Leeds.

Hi. Sounds good, ( I'm in Bramhope). I was hillclimbing/sprinting a Force single seater up until last year but taking a break from it. The Cayman was only intended to be a fast road car and I'm gradually trying make it the best it can be...However I do miss being on track so the odd track day could be an option even though it's not competition. My only reservation is that the car is a really clean example so almost too nice to risk damaging..We will see but will need deep/baffled sump if I do just as S a precaution..

I could just say that someone made me an offer, which is what actually happened. Although the negotiation took from March to October.
However thoughts were that whilst the GT2 was a great experience over the 15 years and 30,000 miles I drove it, mainly to, from and at trackdays, insurance on track was becoming more onerous, including a 10k excess on UK circuits and even higher more in Europe. And a growing feeling that unless I made some non reversible modifications, there was nothing new in terms of experience with it.
Also the GT2 is turbo assisted, and my other recent track car, an Atom, supercharged. I wanted to return to a naturally aspirated car, and occasionally rent some more track focussed prototypes again.
Thought about a GT3, but this might have had the same concerns on intrinsic value and insurance. The Cayman seemed to solve this. Guess time will tell.

The vendor and map developer suggested 360-370 bhp, although have also read some discussion on forums which suggests the main benefit of increase cc is in additional torque in the mid range. Whatever the new figures are, I do not plan to dyno the car. So far it feels adequate for a fun experience.They also claimed a weight reduction towards 1200kg. Not weighed it but there are several lighter parts and panels fitted by the previous owner. Have added a bit of weight back with the half cage but now also have some peace of mind.

Hard to say, this car has been developed as a successful hillclimb competition car with suspension, differential, and weight saving options in addition to the capacity increase and subsequent remapping.Wondered if it reflects in the retained value if I was to go down that Avenue.
So teasing out the value of the engine build for this car in isolation from the whole package is not that clear. My only thought would be that to undertake the rebuild with extra cc, including the revised intake/exhaust plus remapping could be more than an early 987.1 donor car might cost itself.
