I haven't voted for years so don't really have any political skin in this game. I do however have a keen interest in politics and human nature.
Personally I think Boris is a weak, incompetent clown who's followed the Trump playbook to the letter, but by now he must know that Trump is doomed, Brexit is going to be a disaster, he's made a mess of the COVID response etc and the negative press is overwhelming, so what's in it for him to stay on? I'm thinking he'll resign early next year.

Two years max I think. There's already talk of him being fed up with the pay cut from what he was on before (and to be fair, I think while serving the PM doesn't have a massive salary compared to the responsibility) and is keen to get on the after-dinner speaking circuit. Had Covid not happened I think it would be closer to one year.

It's a long time until the next GE, but I think the next PM could be Rishi Sunak (he's a minority so ticks that box). Looking at the opposition I don't think any of them stand a chance.
Sunak is head of the dept that will be seen as making the biggest mess in 4yrs' time. He's weak and devoid of ideas. I'll be surprised if he's leader at the next GE and even more surprised if the Tories win with him there.Boris' future depends on Brexit and the success of the vaccination programme. Or otherwise on both. If they both turn out ok/well respectively, I can see him hanging in as leader and possibly succeeding. His health may make him call it a day next year though.
A Tory win depends on Starmer to a large extent. If he comes up with decent policies and has a good clear out of the weaker members he has in shadow cabinet, they could win. However I suspect both are long shots this term.

Can anyone suggest a successor?
It's not like we have a Maggie or Tony sitting in the wings.
I despair.
It’s well known that Murdoch is backing Gove, his outlets have been gunning for Boris for some time now, not that Boris has made it very difficult for them. On the basis that Murdoch has been running the country for the last thirty years, my money’s on Gove. It's not like we have a Maggie or Tony sitting in the wings.
I despair.

I can't see anyone wanting to replace him until Brexit is more settled and Covid less of a disaster.
Exactly. Boris will be the sacrificial lamb for the Brexit deal, which will be seen as a surrender by some and Covid which has been an overarching disaster.Sunak will be the next leader, as it will be difficult to throw mad at his financial incompetence, given that Labour promised half a trillion of extra spending at the last election.

Look at what went before him and what we could have in his place.
I think he'll stay.
Isn't it rather worrying that for his party, and the majority of the public, he remains the least worst, and therefore the safest, option. What has happened to our political class. Once the envy of many, now roundly derided. A bit like our country, sadly. I think he'll stay.
Who has bought their copy then? Boris for Xmas no. 1

Anyway, he's a useless incompetent liar, but I can't see him being kicked out.

His health ? Nothing to do with making a complete b
ks of things and legging it then ?Boris has lost weight and says he feels better than he has in years - following his Covid episode.
He says he was too fat (he still is, the fat knacker) and he has embarked on a bit of training.
He may cite health reasons (the pressure of "managing" the pandemic, etc etc) but that will just be (another) excuse IMO.
He'll just be keen to avoid as much scrutiny as possible.
