Vintage Chronograph NOS or New?

So, browsing eBay as you do and stumbled over this, really ticks a lot of boxes for me at first glance.

It is being sold as NOS form late 60s or early 70s, that 50 were found and are now available, but the more I look at it, it’s not is it... it’s just new. It’s on sale for £1295 that’s far too cheap for a NOS watch isn’t it? And way too much for a Chinese modern?

Has anyone got any opinion on it?

It looks like a replica to me - but them I know nothing about watches!

Seagull st 1901 movement (Chinese) by the look of it.

Unless it’s what that movement is biased on... ahem.

I’d rather have this for £190

It looks nice but it doesn't look old, even nos have that kind of patina about them but this looks way too fresh.

I can't imagine it would have had the plastic stickers on if it truly was a vintage NOS piece either

Nothing to add other than it’s a really nice looking watch.

Yeah my thoughts it’s either a Venus movement from the 50s or a modern Chinese job... and worth a couple of hundred quid at most.

I can’t see the value in a cheap automatic chrono anyway. They’re big blocky things.

Vintage chronographs: taking a risk that it actually works ok as servicing them can be expensive.

Nicely-designed quartz chronograph, like a Bulova LP or that Newmark pilot’s reissue? Yes bloody please!

Having said all that I do like the look of that Tissot vintage reissue, probably all sold out though.

The laser engraving on the case back surely gives this away as a new watch. Pretty, but not valuable.

Well at least now you know and no money was wasted. There are a few nice Chinese chronos on eBay that have caught my eye recently. Usually around the £150 mark. Eg this one.

As others have said even if it was NOS the lume would have aged to a more beige/creamy colour. No 'swiss made' on the dial. Case Back doesn't look period and the biggest give away of all is the case back sticker.

You are right, the watch is a fake. I purchased this from a reputable auction house and thought nothing of it until i got messages saying the movement doesn't look right etc..

Everyone is right, the biggest tell is the modern Seagull 1901 ST movement. It was sold to me as a NOS Jacques Monnat and as i have purchased from the same auction previously and on many occasions i didn't even stop to consider it was counterfeit.

Needless to say, upon realising it was fake i have removed it from sale from both Chrono24 and eBay and have contacted the auction house.

Glad that nobody purchased it and hopefully the auction house will do something about it.

Anyway, thanks for your time everyone and i hope you all have a great weekend!

So sorry to hear that mate and my post was not intended to “call you out”, just wanted to confirm my suspicions as certainly to start with I was genuinely thinking of buying it. Such a shame as it is a cracking looking watch.

Hope you get some restitution from the auction house.
