I have a faithful astravan that's almost at 200k and still doing well. Of late when I turn the key off, thou I can can't the key out, its not turning off completely. The engine will shut off, but either the radio will remain on or when I open the door open the door it will beep at me as if the keys still in there.

I've thought about spraying some WD40 in there to see if it solves the issue, I'm concerned I might get it on some electric's and then there will be more problems. Would this be the case or would this solve the problem?

Or is it a case the barrel needs changing and I have to replace the keys as well.

Cheers

Graphite spray will help temporarily, it will need a new ignition barrel though, videos on youtube showing how to file the bit in the barrel causing the problem.

WD40 usually fixes this sort of thing, no issues with electrics, also, retract the key sharply.

Thanks, i'll start with the WD40 as I have this to hand. Will look into having a bit filed off it.

More likely something is just badly worn in the cylinder, but WD40 won't hurt. The switch itself is physically separate from the lock cylinder so very unlikely to get any WD40 in it, and even if you did it wouldn't stop it working.
