My dilemma.
I recently bought a G31 530d with the 20” alloys (759). 3 x Eagle F1 and 1 x Bridgestone (front near side). That’s annoying the life out of me as it is. I had them refurbed and I’m happy with how they look. I’m not happy with the road noise at 70mph plus. They just seem loud.

Do I keep the 20s and go for Michelin non RFs all round. £820 ish.
Or go with a set of 18s? I’ve seen some decent sets on eBay for sensible money. £5-700 dependant on condition and tyres. Think these are the 662s. Ok for winter as well if that’s your thing.

I’d sooner keep the 20s but I’ll be p****d if I spend £800 and they’re no better with new tyres.

I always used to swap RFs out years ago without giving it a second thought.

Any suggestions or has anyone done something similar?

I’d keep the wheels but ditch the run flats

I had RFTs on my 340i.
Any positive perceptions I had , probably due to having adaptive suspension , went out of the window when I put my Michelin Alpin winters on.

The difference is night and day , from every perspective , contort , handling , traction , noise.
RFTs are awful. Change them.

This

The only reason to keep run flats is if you want the car to run on when one goes flat. Thats the only problem they solve. At everything else you want, need or expect from a tyre they're totally inferior to a go flat tyre. This is all exaggerated as you go for bigger wheels and also lower profile tyres.

Chances of needed the RF is remote anyway so I’m more than happy to take my chances there. I can’t think of many times where I’ve had to use the spare on a car (numerous times on heavier vans where I’ve had blowouts).

I was going to wear these tyres down before changing them but I think I’ll bite the bullet and go for some Michelin Super Sports all round.

If you have 20 inch rims then you'll want their replacement tyre which is the Pilot Sport 4S. Not sure if they make the lesser Pilot Sport 4 in 20 but make sure you get the ones with the S.

Thanks.
I’d just worked that out on the tyre reviews. Kwikfit have 10% off Michelin at the minute but they only have the Super Sport for the rear. I’ll have a good look tonight.

Super sport is a very different tyre to the MP4S. Much more good weather oriented. The newer tyre will serve you better in average conditions.

I can’t seem to find them marked for BMW? Does the start thing actually make a difference? A few places seem to still have Super Sports only for BMW.

A tyre is a tyre. I'm not super familiar with BMW star rating. I'd rather buy 4 of their standard version if poss. They might be produced for the M5 variant specifically as the pucker M cars don't use RFT but all other BMW do.
