How was your 2020?

Challenging for some, disasterous for others and tough for most. That said in these obscure times we haven’t seen anything like this for many years and hopefully won’t see another year like this for a very long while.
How was your 2020?
Ups and downs. How was your 2020?
Wedding and honeymoon postponed, a number of family and friend deaths, obviously many other plans cancelled.
That being the down, ups are promotion, lockdown has focused me on weight loss and fitness, financially secure ( as much as one can be in these times I suppose), working from home has been really pleasant and I’ve had a good Christmas.
Just crack on with life and enjoy what you can

Merry Christmas all
Pretty good all things considering. Managed to work from home for serval months, and then doing a few days a week in the office and a few at home, job isn't in danger and I got another 3 year contract in August.
On the negative side i had covid and am currently abroad and will need to produce a negative pcr test to get home, which might be an issue as apparently you can test positive for ages after having it, so not 100% sure when I'll make it home, but not able to do a lot while here as all my mates are in tier 4.

2020 has been a difficult year.
two income family, i work Mrs works, she has her own business and this has been like walking a tightrope. totally wierd, and an eye opener on people. Normal sane people that you thought were sane showing a side of them that made you question a fair bit of them,
Working on my own things and doing what I can with my work and mixing in with travel to remote locations with the worry of covid that brings. working from home with the mrs and that can be a challenge in its own right. got a bike and started using that to get fitter and lose weight. it works.
not terrible but certainly not the best experiance. come through it stronger ? I dont know, def a learning curve and I could see how marriages could struggle. or even personal mental health,.

Retired in March so very quiet.
The big retirement holidays went by the board but apart from not seeing the grandchildren as much as we’d like it’s pretty much business as usual.
Oh apart from all the restaurants being closed. We do like eating out, even if it’s only going to a cafe for breakfast. I’m still trying to use up gift tokens I got from customers 10 months ago. By the time I remember we have them the buggers are shut again.
2020 has been pretty decent to be fair.
I usually travel a lot with work which I love and whilst that was/is one of my biggest frustrations of the pandemic it’s allowed me to spend more time with the family. My youngest turned one during that time, so their has been lots of things I’ve been able to witness that I may have missed out on.
On the work front, I’ve been extremely fortunate. I work for growing private schools group, and we haven’t let anyone go or cut any salaries during the pandemic (quite hard to justify if you’re going through growth though). Our rate of acquisitions did slow but we still added a number of schools and broke into the Canadian market which is exciting.
I also bagged a promotion during this time which was unexpected but great to have a new challenge of leading the group in my function.
Like above, I used the time to get fitter and started cycling 3 to 4 times a week during most the year. It’s been a great distraction to the almost endless conference calls / Teams meetings!
I’m expecting 2021 to be much of the same in terms of the pandemic. I hope I’m wrong but I can’t see big changes in case numbers, mortality rates, restrictions, travel etc until at least Q3/Q4. Crazy to think we are a year in to this whole episode!

We had second baby at height of lockdown 1
2 weeks later our just turned 3 year old son was taken in to hospital with unusual bleeding. Had assumed he’d be home that day after being checked over we were instead told he wouldn’t be coming home for a few weeks at least and needed to be transferred straight to great ormond street.
Being pandemic only one of us was allowed with him and so the family was split in two with a newborn at home.
We were told not to expect good outcome and a long stay in hospital.
I’d gone from being excited about now having 2 beautiful children to thinking that by the end of the year we’d
once again only have one.
The doctors were amazing and we were reunited again after many transfusions and repeat stays. He got to start nursery in September which we hadn’t expected.
His most recent tests show that he should have the all clear.
So despite being worried by a pandemic for much of the beginning of the year, the worry for our son over took that quickly and all other worries all of a sudden seemed insignificant.
Our baby is now 7 months old and it feels like we’ve blinked and missed the whole baby stage as all focus was on her brother.
I look back on this year as wonderful as it could have been unimaginably worse
I hope 2021 means baby gets to meet family and I’m going into it mildly optimistic that it might be a better year

Oddly, it’s not been too bad.
Mrs Magnum is an Acute Medical Consultant in our local (ish) hospital, so stress levels from her job have been very high, but so far we’ve managed to avoid actually catching COVID. Some of her colleagues have not been so lucky and been very ill, increasing her workload significantly.
Personally, I used to travel a lot to work, most weeks would be 2 to 4 nights away. I’ve spent more time with my family this year than at any point since I got married, which is a definite bonus.
On the negative side f**king Brexit has forced some massive changes. Most of my work over the last 22 years has been with Europe based companies who have been reducing reliance on UK based consultants due to no-one having had a clue what the rules would be after 31st December. So I’ve had to make some radical changes to how my team & I work in order to continue working. Those changes are made, but income levels aren’t as good as they would have been without Brexit.
Hopefully 2021 will keep the positive aspects from this year, and I’ll find a way to reduce the negative impact of Brexit.

Didn't get to fly much (Only about 10hrs - combination of lockdowns plus an aircraft crash and insurance write-off), a bit tired of having things poked up my nose (weekly tests at the moment), but all things considered It hasn't been too bad. No job worries and no immediate family with any covid scares so I think I can count myself one of the lucky ones. Bought a new bike and did lots of cycling. A bit disappointed we (well, the kids) missed out on our big summer holiday.
Overall for me and my family I'd score 2020 a 4/10. Not great, but could have been a lot worse.

Pretty crap. Physical health has improved with the Crohns disease, 8000 miles on the bike this year has helped both physical and mental health, started running now too........ Not really my thing but needs must and it's helping my head ! Still in a job...... just. Didn't think that would happen after the furlough etc this year. Still living alone, did think that would still be happening...........

Like so many others, a mixed one really to be honest.
Bad points...
Put four stone on since July as have struggled with my MH and taken to eating as a coping mechanism, I don't drink!
Haven't seen as much of the family as I would have liked.
Challenging year finance-wise.
Good points...
Now have three grandchildren when I started 2020 with only one
Had lost five stone before I started putting on again (so I end the year a stone lighter!)
Have been able to still go to football matches through volunteering and work.
