Currently in the position to change with 40k to spend on a car...currently have a F31 320d xdrive touring which I like and have owned since it was a demonstrator but have mainly due to the tax reasons in Ireland. Now I am back in wales I want something more fulfilling but am now working from home and so mileage would be school runs with Mrs G and the occasional weekend blast.

Ps still need to tow a 6 berth caravan...

So far:

Keep the 320d and get a sports car - has to be 4 seats as had the Saab v6 convertible prior and kids loved it. Grancabrio is there right now or something similar

Ditch it and get something so so - 530d touring or x5 2019 - feels a bit like a bigger version of what I have today...

Go big - LR405 or RRS

Best of both worlds - RS6 2015-ish but a lot of money for an older car.

Thoughts.?

RS6 is a good call, but to throw something different into the mix if you keep the 320d and buy a sports car (as it’s something I’ve been looking at for myself), what about a Nissan GTR?

You can pick up a 2009 on 55k miles for under £40k. I found these to be great fun to drive, blisteringly fast but felt planted and stable. It also has 4 seats. Although if 40k for a 2015 is a lot of money for an old car, 35k for a 2009 will likely not be acceptable...
