Reversing lights?

Peeps, mine are not working and I don't suspect the bulbs!

Matt very kindly mailed me a photo of the reversing light switch by the cable linkages that may be the culprit but I can't make it out.

On inspection today at the Northants run, I spied a small cylindrical part with two wires attached that seems to screw down into the top of the gearbox casing close to the selectors - is this it (if so the top is filled with a jelly-like substance that seems to have melted so could be the cause!)?

Sounds very much like the culprit to me !

The only electrical component going into a gearbox housing on a standard manual H pattern will be the reverse light switch. So if the component you describe seems to have come from there and it looks fried its highly likely.
